I've been experimenting with Speer's (vol 13) recipe for 40 cal ,155 gr reloads. I statred with the min Speer recommendation of 7.2 grs (Unique Pwdr) and ended up with 6.8 grs. I'm still getting one hell of a recoil and flash. Any advice on a different pwdr brand and pwdr weight for medium recoil and saftey in my Glock 22?

I've neveer loaded 155s, but

in loading 165,170 and 180 gr. bullets for my G22 I've used Unique, Win. 231, and most recently Accurate #5 with good results. Don't recall much flas from Unique, but I was using a different bullet.

Most of my loads for .40 are to meet 165 PF with a 180 gr. bullet for IDPA & other local leagues.
Am using both WST & Titegroup. TG is somewhat "snappy" compared to WST but
it's a whole lot cleaner than WST.
If you want a med. recoil load with a 155 consider trying Titegroup and -10%
of Hodgdon's max listed on their site.

Sierra's Manual lists 6.9 of Unique with a 150 gr. JHP running at 1,100 fps.
Their lowest loaded listing is 5.6 gr for 900 fps with same bullet.
5.9 = 950; 6.2 = 1,000 & 6.6 = 1,050 fps. So 6.8 is far from a "med. load".
These are all from a 5" bbl. You did not mention if you were using plated or jkt'd. bullets so if plated should reduce anywhere from 2/10's to 5/10's gr.

All that said I agree with Greg:

"You can't go wrong with Titegroup." It's clean, inexpensive, meters great,
isposition insensitive and has very consistent vel. even with light loads.

I recommend against using WW231 with 180-gr lead bullets. It's apparently okay with 155s. Oregon Trail Bullet Co.'s manual lists 231 for 155s but not for 170s or 180s.

My experience with Unique is that if flashes more with lighter-bullet loads.

I've used VV N340 and Powerpistol with 155, 165 and 180 gr. I've played a little with N350 but it's slower and produces more muzzle flash in my Glock 23.
