Need help with my eaa witness 9mm

Hello every one I have a eaa witness 9mm full size steel frame with rail and rubber grips and I have two problems
1.id like to find out what lbs. recoil spring I should use for defense rounds in it???
2.any time I try to load the gun with the mag it dose not feed right up the ramp I thank because I got one of those faulty mags I been reading about but not sure it came with a 17rd mag but thank it takes a 18rd one Tryed looking it up but can't seem to find any solid info please help

I believe the Witness in 9mm uses a 14# spring. I'm no gunsmith, but I think unless you're going to be feeding your gun a steady diet of hot loads, there's no need to up recoil spring weight. For target shooting and the occasional box of self defense rounds, I might buy a new spring but same weight.

As for the loading problem, with most guns it is the magazine that is at fault most of the time, but not all of the time. What are you loading into it? I found that with my 1911 I had to put a box of FMJ's down her before she would feed JHP's 100% of the time.
Also, are you drawing the slide completely to the rear, and letting go so it gets the full force of the spring to load that round in?

Thanks you very much for the info a out the spring but for the mag I loads fine if I just keep 9rd in it but if I fully load it I can push on the tip of the top round an it dips in to the front mouth of the mag so I thank it's a faulty mag but what I don't know is. Is the 17 rd mag or the 18 rd mag standard I looked it up but some say 17rd is an some say the 18rd is so I don't know I plan to replace the faulty mag but don't know which one to order i dont want to order the wrong one

If the gun is supposed to have 18 round capacity, that means 17 rounds in the magazine and one in the chamber. If the magazine is loaded with 17 rounds and you release the locked back slide and it does not feed, you have a problem. If you try cycling the slide by hand with a full magazine and it does not feed, the inside of the magazine may have dry preservative oil in it, which needs to be cleaned out with solvent and lightly lubricated.

Had a similar problem with my Witness initially, cleaning the magazine solved the problem.

I use mine (9mm) as a range gun and it has seen thousands and thousands of round nose plated bullets without a problem. I recently found out that it is allergic to Federal 135gr Hydra-shoks. It won't even feed them one at a time! The rounds nose down in the magazine. To be fair this is a pretty old Witness of the all steel variety and old frame design. I increased the spring rate in mine and quickly switched back to factory rating but with a new Wolff spring @ 14#.

Try to run some FMJ ammo through it and then see what it feeds well after broken in. Mine likes Speer Gold Dots in 124gr or 147gr. It ran fine with Hornady XTP's too.

Thanks guys... I always been in to firearms but just came of age two years ago so I'm just now starting to be able to get my own toys to play with so any tricks of the trade or advice or info would be great

But I'll try to clean out the mag an see if that helps but later ill take a pic ofFloriography what it dose when fully loaded but when it is ill hit the slide release the tip of the rounds nose hits the feeding ramp right at the very beginning an jams ill put up pic an a min when I get home but I read a few other places an it says that some eaa factory mags are faulty the ones wit the orange followers or what ever there called but I plan to replace it but so it is a 17rd standard mag for this model cuz I looked around an some sites like eaa says 18+1 an some say 17+1

On my witness I can get 18 in the mag but that last one is so tight that it is not worth it. I go 17+1

Are you just trying one brand of hollow points? Some feed better than others depending on the gun.

Do your mags have an orange or a black follower? The orange follower large frame 9mm mags will cause nose dives when loaded over 10 rounds. EAA will replace them with the newer black follower "K9" mags built by Mec-Gar if you send it back to them. The full size large frame 9mm Witness takes 17 round mags.

Yes mine dose have an orange follower so if I call eaa they'll replace it no charge? Ill probably have to pay shipping tho right?

Keep in mind, too, that it's possible to get the mag spring in wrong -- so that the front of the rollower isn't supported by the mag spring. Check that when you get a chance. The owner's manual will probably show the proper spring orientation. (There may be a "top" and "bottom" to your mag spring, as well -- that manual will show that, too.)

I already toke the mag apart to make sure it was all right inside an it was
