I purchased a 625-8 which looked like it had never been cleaned. In the process of doing a complete strip and cleaning I lost a spring. I am new to revolvers and do not know what to ask for. It is the small spring that fits between the hammer and a small piece that the trigger pushes on when it is pulled double action. Can someone help me with a description so I can get it ordered? Is there a good web site that details the parts of a S&W revolver and how they work?
Thanks
Greg

Missing Spring

GPappy, that sounds like the rebound spring. Coil spring, and the piece that it goes into is a rectangular box with an open top and a small stud at the back end that keeps the spring in place...right?

Brownells will get that spring to ya while Smith & Wesson is still tryin'
to decide which color postage stamp to use. If you need the toll-free number and a part number, let me know. They accept Visa, Mastercard,
and will deliver COD if ya talk nice.;)

Take care,
Tuner

Tuner,
Thanks for the response. There is a slot milled out in the hammer and the piece that fits into it is flat stock about 1/2 inch long or so and about 1/8 inch wide? Has a hook at the top which sets in the slot on the hammer and a small indentation on the back which the spring sits in. Could be just a new style for the rebound slide? I will check with Brownells, thanks.

Aha!

Sorry Greg. I read that in the wee hours. The part that you're
missing is the sear spring, I betcha. I'll check to see if Brownells has it
and get back to ya.

EDIT: Greg, that sear spring isn't listed in Brownells.
Curious. The sear is listed. Any Smith smiths out there
got a sear spring for an N frame?

If nobody can come up with one, you'll probably have to call Smith & Wesson and wait for the spirit to move'em. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

Later!

Well, after about 3 hours trying various suggestions: 1) use magnet over whole floor. 2) Vacuum with nylon stretched over hose. 3) wait until dark and then use flashlight to cast shadows. I finally found the sucker. Actually had given up and was looking at latest Brownells catalog to figure out what to order when I happen to find it sitting on the bench next to the catalog (I know I swept that area so who knows). Anyways, the 625 is back together and working fine. At least I am learning about the inner working of a revolver.

Thanks for all the help and suggestions.
