I'm in need of a decent quality rear sight for an m4gery. this will not be a battle rifle, I do not need or want the highest quality sight made. no do I want something so crappy it keeps falling off. It's going on a doublestar star 15, not a high end gun. it doesn't even have to fold. I found this http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/?productnumber=235414 though leapers is never my first choice for anything.

next up http://www.gundealeronline.com/Magpul-Back-Up-REAR-Iron-Sight-for-your-AR-15-M4-p/magpulbuisbk.htm magpl's plastic sight?

other suggestions? I would like to keep it at or under $50 because I don't know how long it will stay on until it is replaced by a red dot.

Daniel Defense A1.5 rear BUIS:

$66.50 and far better quality than Leapers. I can't comment on the MBUS, except that they do get good reviews. I would steer clear of the DPMS and Midwest Industries options when compared to the Daniel Defense, as the DD is much better quality and design in my limited testing.

Even with a red dot you may still want a BUIS mounted as well.

In my opinion for long range shooting the MATech sight is the best, for close quarters I dig the Troy and for a budget the Magpul BUIS are great. I own and use the MATechs and the MBUIS on two of my rifles, the Troys are too expensive for my blood.

Forget Leapers. That unit is a POS.

Magpul MBUS, Daniel Defense fixed. Cavalry Arms also makes a fixed one. Those are the only three I'd touch in that price range. Buy quality, because you need to keep it on with the reddot sight as a back up sight.

BUIS is a set it and forget it kind of deal. A1 style sights, so to speak. Even on a BUIS only gun (until you get your red dot) you're not going to be fiddling with the sights. (Unless you're shooting matches, and then you're going to be using easily adjustable sights)

Zero for 50 and 200 yards and roll.

If you have a carry handle, you can cut that down, too.

My only experience (and research) has been towards the higher-end rear sights. I like the MATech and it's very good (and adjustable for elevation). However, I like the Troy better, because it is dead nuts simple and bombproof.
