Hi All, well heres the skinny. We are just getting back into shooting and I want to do reloading for both cost savings (.270 ammo aint cheap) and to mess around and make some rounds that work well in our guns. We will be reloading Ammo for a .270 (Mossberg 100 ATR) A .410 shotgun, a 12 gauge shotgun, maybe a 20 gauge shotgun and probably a 30.06 at least to start with.

Now I mentioned this to a friend of ours and as it turns out She still has all of her husbands reloading equipment (he passed away over a year ago now) and she hasn't been using it and its just been collecting dust. So last night we went over and picked it all up to sort thru and inventory. So now that I have the inventory and seen whats there, I need some help figuring out how much I should offer her for all this stuff. Obviously some of it I won't be using or needing since this guy had some big caliber guns (theres gear for re-loading .50 cal stuff in here). But she obviously won't need the stuff or the caliber specific parts since i will be taking the presses and such, so I need an idea of what I should offer for the whole kit and kaboodle. So here is a list of everything I have.

I know what one is...The one just above the little brushes is a case mandrel for a RCBS case trimmer. The one with the graduated steps...

The one just above the little brushes is a case mandrel for a RCBS case trimmer.
And the one above right from that looks like the priming attachment for an old RCBS press. Don't know the model though.

43. Some unknown parts and pieces. anybody know what these are?

From the right. Looks like what might be a stripper clip for some rifle cartridge. Above it looks sort-a like a hand priming tool -- can't tell what brand. To the left of that is a priming arm for an RCBS press, minus the pin that holds it in the press.

Except for the brushes, I don't know what the rest of that stuff is.

so I need an idea of what I should offer for the whole kit and kaboodle.

Hoo Boy! Lots of good stuff there, but it looks like it's also seen plenty of use too.

MMMMmmmm. Price it out new at Midway and offer 50% of that? Check ebay for the going prices on the used stuff? Just some thoughts as to a way you might approach it.

adding it up in my head I come up with 700.00 to a friend.Less if I was dealing at a show or a garage sale.

any others have a price in mind?

wow 700! true it seems about right. My Mom sugggested around $150 or so but that seemed low to me, didn't realize it was that low. Problem is alot of that stuff is kind of useless to us. the only dies I'm considering keeping are the .223 and the 7mm and I honestly dont even have guns that fire those rounds (YET). I frankly don't plan on getting any of the other calibers that are there.

Buy it all from her at a fair price. A fair price is 50% of retail. I suggest selling what you don't want or can't use on Ebay. That's one solution.

The other is to buy what you want from her at 50% of retail and offer to help her sell the rest on ebay, where she'll get approximately 50% of retail.

As far as those dies and the bullet casting equipment, I'd buy that if I were you. You'll be amazed how a gun will come into your possession that fits that stuff if you buy it.

Regards,

Dave

92GreenYJ,

I doubt you'll ever use 70% of that stuff unless you get into molding your own bullets. Few people load shot gun anymore unless the shoot competition an then if you buy in bulk you can usually find ammo for nearly the same as it cost to reload.

I would offer $200 for this stuff I listed below and offer to sell the rest on eBay. The stuff is old as the hill, I know that is what most of my reloading equipment looks but I bought it new.

2. RCBS Rock Chucker Press
4. RCBS Case Lube Pad
5. RCBS Powder Measure
6. Forster Products Case Trimmer
7. RCBS Beam Scale
9. RCBS Powder Trickler
10. RCBS Powder Funnel
12. RCBS Steel Brush
13. RCBS Burring Tool 17 to 45
17. Olsens Vibratory Tumbler and Media
21. RCBS 223 REM FL Die Set (2 piece) and 2 shell holders
22. RCBS 7mm REM MAG FL die set (2 piece) and 2 shell holders
that size)
29. 8 each Forster Case Trimmer Pilots in Misc Sizes (read unknown)
30. Powder Guide
32. 3 each Small Decapping Pins
33. 5 Ea. Large Decapping Pins
34. 1 tube RCBS resizing Lube

By the way I think I identified everything but one item in your picture:

Well I'd like to load shotgun shells, at least for my .410 since those tend to be a bit more pricey then 12 gauge shells. However my roomate does like the idea of loading 12 gauge shells. I know I can get free Hulls all day long at the local range and I have a good source for lead shot. I appreciate all the advice. and it appears the $700 quote is about right on for 50% of retail on this stuff.

So now the question is, whats good book or DVD that will tell me exactly how to do this? I have zero experience with re-loading anything. So something that outlines the basic steps would be awsome

Sell the stuff in red. Keep the rest. I've listed what I've noticed to be average used prices for this stuff. + or - here and there. Without specifics about bullets and brass I can't put a total dollar value for this lot especially how dirty and unkept it all is. These are used prices. I'm sure that if it were all purchased retail right now the total would be closer to $800. I would offer $350-$400 since much of this really needs to be cleaned up before you can sell or use.

JackOfAllTrades,

You haven't watched an ebay auction on those things, have you? The prices you have are way undervalued. That stuff will go for 80% of retail most times on ebay. I know, because I have been bidding on an RCBS luber sizer and haven't been able to win a bid yet.

Regards,

Dave

Using Idano's labelled picture, I'll add the stripper clip stuff is for an AR15/M16, the hand priming tool is an old Lee, the three steel brushes underneath the arrow for the case trimmer collet are gunsmith jeweling brushes.

The thing he has a question mark on, I don't know either.

Regards,

Dave

Well Dave,,

I'll admit I discounted a little for the condition of the items I see in the photos. No, I haven't been watching Evilbay for these items recently. I sold a Lyman 45 Lubrisizer for $35 this year. Bought it for $30 from a guy on CastBoolits. The RCBS is no better. (I've since bought a STAR). Sizing dies and top punches bring extra $. Depending on the time of year, those press prices do fluctuate. Be patient and be able to bid at 2am. I guess that Rockchucker is worth around $75 on Evilbay if cleaned up. Which is weird since you can buy a new one for just a little more. Once a bidder has paid shipping, he didn't save much.

The die prices I list are just average prices. I've seen used dies go for $10, and seen the same model sell the next week for $25. Which is also weird since you can buy new carbide dies for just a little more. That being said, I wonder how old those dies are.

Ad a stand to go with the RCBS powder measure and the price nearly doubles. Looking at the photos, I doubt the bullet molds are lubed or smoked. Size of the boxes almost indicates that they're single or maybe double cavity molds. Handles? Four cav molds are worth considerably more. I don't see anything there that says Hensley and Gibbs.. Darn! :banghead:

Do some research, a lot of cleaning, and be patient, I'm sure there's more money to be had there selling stuff.

I wouldn't offer any more than $400 for the lot.

-Steve
