Good afternoon all...
I've spoken of this project before, much earlier this year. I'm pleased to report it's finally complete. For the last 9 months it's been a slow going process and is finally done.
Last January I ordered a New Moldel O Government Series 70 .45 ACP 5" Blue from Colt.
Here are the specifications/modifications...
Slide and frame Hand fitted/lapped
Slide and frame tastefully dehorned by hand, slight in some areas but in my opinion perfect.
Lowered and flared ejection port w/ scallop (also tastefully accomplished)
Extractor - Ed Brown Hardcore hand fitted and tuned
Ejector - Ed Brown Hardcore hand fitted and tuned
Mainspring Housing - Ed Brown Hardcore smooth arched
Beavertail Grip Safety - Ed Brown Hardcore Memory Bump hand fitted and blended
Thumb Safety - Ed Brown Hardcore Tactical hand fitted
All ignition parts - Ed Brown Hardcore hand fitted (Commander Hammer)
Slide Lock - Ed Brown Hardcore hand tuned
Barrel/Bushing - Kart National Match hand tuned/fitted
- Polished throat
- Crowned Muzzle (Don't recall the degrees... I think it's 42)
Magazine Release - Ed Brown Hardcore
Trigger Solid adjustable travel - 10-8
- Trigger hand fitted polished consistant pull average of 10 pulls 4.1 lbs. Breaks like glass...
Guide Rod - Full Length 2 piece Ed Brown hand polihsed
Recoil Spring - Wolff progressive rate
Sighting System
Novak X Rear
- Tritium Bar
Novak Gold Bead front sight
Grips
- Mil Tac G-10 1* embossed black/grey panels
The finish was completed by hand rubbed and fine glass bead blasted. Some imperfections were found from Colt's shop and removed.
This gun is blued with a high polish on the flats and very fine bead blasting on the rounds. The rounds have a very slight matte finish.
I must say the action and slide on this weapon is smooth as silk and the trigger breaks clean and crisp very consistantly. All in all it's incredible to feel and and a joy to run.
There were some very specific reliability modifications I requested, that took some time to perfect. This is a working gun, as a P.O.S.T. firearms instructor I was very specific about it's future use.
Upon receiving it yesterday quite frankly it's far more handsome than I expected it to be.
All the hand fitting and work was performed by my smith and close friend Lon Tuttle of Tactical Solutions here in Boise, Id. Folks, this man did a phenominal job on this weapon!!! I can't say enough about his work.
It will currently be carried in a Milt Sparks holster 55BN with shark trim. I have on order a couple of different rigs from Milt in Elephant. Upon arrival I will photograph them also.
I'll spend some time this evening cleaning it up from my grubby mitts and get some photographs posted.
Hooo Aaaah!!!!
Thank you Lon for all your hard work and dealing with my OCD issues on this weapon! You've exceeded my dreams and goals and made this weapon a reality that I will cherish and use for the rest of my days.
Thank you...
