New gun owners ?

I was just reading that the jump in gun sales is caused by existing gun owners buying more guns. Not new gun owners. I'm retired now and don't get out much anymore so I don't know. But, I do know of at least two new gun owners in my family in the past couple months. What you think?
I'm going to have to call BS on that. The local gun stores I go to complain constantly about the influx of clueless, dangerous new gun owers. On the gun forums guys are complaining about the flood of dealing with people on arms list and gunbroker who have no clue about how to "buy a mail order gun" and just assume you buy it and the dealer sends it to your house, no questions asked, because that's how CNN says it works.
I'm a long time gun owner, the only "firearms" I have bought in the last year was silencers because there have been a lot of good deals and a single shot altor 9mm pistol... just because it's weird and really cheap.

And THAT my friend is so very True!
I dont know about a lot, but some no doubt. Most of the new buyers in my LGS' (plural, I frequent a few), dont appear to be overtly Antifa/BLM/misanthropic anachichist types, but more the suburban, center-left folks who just didnt give a thought to it until now.

Im sure ot varies by local though.

Take heed. A lot of the new gun owners are Marxist social justice warriors arming up.
Curious as to how you know this. Can you document this assertion with actual evidence?

Because my take -- based on the numerous recent encounters I've had in gunshops (as well as some other retailers where guns and ammo are sold) and at local ranges is that mostly, these new gun owners seem ideologically a lot like many of us here, but had simply not gotten around to feeling the need to own a gun previously.

But then, your take sounds so much more pithy and cogent ... serves me right for actually getting out in the community and talking to people rather than just trying to read the tea leaves and interpret all the random thoughts expressed on the internet ...

I took my "free money" and spent some of it on guns and ammo- gave the rest to my daughter who needed some help. Hey, if they are going to print and give it away, Ill take it.
The stimulus came just after I was laid off so that was good, I was never able to get through to the unemployment office. So I just retired..... since imo all the money came from the Federal Reserves ( my money) that I have to pay the interest on while paying it back with my taxes the whole darn thing is a sore spot. I still took the money though.

Well, we don't care about gun owners' politics.
