New Haven 600 AT magazine tube problem

The New Haven 600 AT is virtually the same as the Mossberg 500. I'm currently taking mine apart (the 600 AT) to refinish it (and give as a gift to a buddy who doesn't have a bird gun).

It's almost all broken down except when I tried taking the forend off the mag tube it was "stuck". I thought it was years of dirt and grime keeping it stuck...So my dumb butt yanked it hard...

Well now its sticky and slow and difficult to move back and forth...Apparently there is some device around the mag tube but under the forend keeping it in place and I've managed to damage the "device" and now I can't get the damn thing off and the forend wont move freely.

Help please, should I just hammer the damn forend down until it comes off or will this damage the tube?

In the pics you can see the "device" sticking out of the forend on the top side, it's like a sleeve under the tube...

OK, I fixed it...

I used a hair dryer to loosen the glue on the mag tube treads. Clamped down the receiver on my bench and used vice grips (on the tip end of the mag tube so as to not crush the tube) to unscrew the mag tube.

Once the tube was off, the forend slid down and off the tube (from the bottom, not the top like newer model Mossberg 500's).

It's completely disassembled, now to bead blast it and Cerakote it.

I'm going to sand and restain the wood too...

Read your thread to late to help, but am glad to hear you found the solution to your problem. Hope your friend enjoys the gun.

Yeah he LOVED the shotgun. I hope he gets lots of birds with it. Here's a couple of pics. The first pic is the before (close up).

I even sanded and re-stained the wood. The gun was done w/ C-Series (airdry) Cerakote Graphite black on the receiver, barrel and magazine tube.
