OK so now my latest misadventure is to try to finish a Walnut CMP stock. Is BLO the best finish to use? Is there another oil or stain I should apply during the process? I refinished an old shotgun stock one time with Tung oil I bought at the store and it turned out OK but I want a dark USGI brown showing the grain as much as possible, hoping for a good deep walnut color with a hint of red or more so than the yellowish brown which I don't care for AT ALL. Any hints or tips?
I am hoping to use this new stock with new stock metal from Numrich to sort of give an old M1 a fresh start. I plan on keeping the old parts around too though.
