Got a new police trade in:

A Smith & Wesson Model 64-5. Got this one for $265 and it's a peach! Got it all cleaned up and ready to go to the range tomorrow.

Guys, if you're like me and you like these police/corrections/security trade in revolvers, it's a good time to buy them. Deals can be had!

Take care all and have a great weekend! :)

I got one from SOG; first three shots off the bench were touching the bullseye at 50yds...

I didn't know any police still used revolvers!

Still, excellent buy.

Deaf

I don't think these are US police agency trade ins. The police trade-ins you see now are from correctional facilities, security companies, and overseas where police agencies sometimes still use revolvers (or only recently switched over). Here in the US, I doubt even the smallest and poorest police agencies still issue revolvers and the only revolvers you'll see in police holsters are privately owned.

Cooldill, nice looking gun.

I remember not much more than a decade ago when there were still quite a few police trade .38s and even .357s out there for under $300 (which also brought down the price of other used K-frames and L-frames: about 12 or 13 years ago I was able to buy a like new P&R S&W 19 for $285). It was quite a shock when prices started going where they are now. If you are interested in an affordable K-frame .38spl, I agree, now is the time while they are still out there. I may have to pick up one of those S&W 64s myself.

Nice

I got it's cousin, a model 65-3, 357 Mag, a bunch of years ago for $195. Of course that was a bunch of years ago, so given the rate of inflation you probably did better. Kind of a police trade in, I was told it had belonged to a police officer, but that's not who I bought it from.

My first issued sidearm was a 67, the adjustable-sighted version of the 64. It was a sweet shooter. Did well in some LE competition shoots with it. It would be nice to run into one for sale locally...

Guys I got her to the range:

Shot like $1,000,000!!! :D The nut behind the trigger needs to get adjusted for the double action pull though, I've been shooting mainly autopistols for the last couple years so am rusty on the revolvers. This was so fun I won't have any problems taking it to the range for practice though!! :D

That's a great price on what looks to be very good condition model 64. Congratulations on your new vintage gun! I had a couple of 64's but traded them off. Maybe time for another 64 or 67. ;)

A lot of men and women are discovering (or rediscovering for us old leo's) the value of a high quality, basic no frills 38 Special revolver. This is making finding nice guns like yours harder and harder to find.

You did good Cooldill.
