Now that the Assault Weapon Ban's out of the way (at least temporarily), what's next? Main things I see at the moment are:

Concealed Carry laws
State-mandated AWBs
The 1986 law (not sure of exact name)
NFA of '34

Personally, I'd like to get the '86 law 86ed... although probably not the most feasible route to take. How's the fight for CCW going, in general? What do we have a fighting chance of changing?

at the state level more states going vermont carry. At the federal level doing away with the Bush Import Ban. as well as the ban on russian and chinese made rifles. (I want 400 dollar norinco M14's darn it)

The Assault weapons ban is going to die. The bigger problem is if kerry gets elected his goons will come up with a new ban that might ban any kind of semi automatic firearm.:cuss: :cuss:

Which is why I'm voting for Bush...

Agreed I will vote for Bush to keep Kerry from appointing juges.

I vote to remove 1986 law. Allow purchasing a firearm from any FFL in the country. With the brady check why can I only purchase a firearm from an ajoining state?

Not out of the way yet fellows... there are still a few weeks left for the Congress critters to pull something sneaky.

Anyone think Bush might enact a new ban of some type once the election is over and he has his mandate? The second term is when we often see the real nature of the President come out.

I agree with making sure Kerry doesn't get in. While there is debate whether President Bush "means it" when he said he would sign a renewal "if it makes it to his desk", there's no doubt Kerry wants the AWB.

Also, emboldened by his election, I bet the antis would realize that they can't fool the public forever that the AWB is about "machine guns", and would go after what they really want: a ban with no grandfather on all "military type" weapons, including mil surps like the SKS, Mosins, and Mausers.

Given the constant rhetoric about "not being needed for hunting" it seems the liberals have done some studies that show this must play well with the rank and file. (i.e. Mr and Mrs Average are "uncomfortable" with civilians owning "military" type weapons of any sort).

Your "mainstream leftist" like Kerry has pretty much decided to play the middle against those who want a UK/Australia "ban 'em all" and the hardcore 2A folks (us).

So I guess what I'm saying is that Kerry doesn't want to ban all guns (he is a realist), just all guns with any connection to military use (i.e. not just semi autos but bolt action mil surps too).

We can't let him do that; its the first step to a UK/Australia type of system as who's top say the next President won't be worse!

Small steps, brothers! E.g., elimination of "sporting purposes" test in the SSA of '68. Moving suppressors to Title I. Nationwide reciprocity of license to carry. Selling to surplus firearms and ammuniton of all governmental agencies via CMP. Continue state level offensive--range protection, civil immunity for valid justifiable shooting, CCW reform, etc., inter alia.

The bigger problem is if kerry gets elected his goons will come up with a new ban that might ban any kind of semi automatic firearm.

That's why I just shook my head when my workmate said "Don't worry about Kerry, there is no way they can take your guns away from you..." right... tell that to the states that can't buy over half of what is available out there.

will come up with a new ban that might ban any kind of semi automatic firearm.

We're going to be vulnerable to legislative nonsense as long as SCOTUS is asleep @ the switch.

And no, I don't like it one little bit.
