NRA dvd on defense shooting? What to do?

I haven't been an NRA member in almost 20 years and still get mail from them occasionally to rejoin. Once you are on their mailing list you are never completely free of it. Same for ALCU. I still get letters from ACLU about every 3 months asking me to rejoin. I still get letters from ARRL asking me to renew with them. I was an ARRL member back in the '90s when I first got my ham radio license but haven't been a member for over 19 years. Still they send me stuff.
Times are tight and I've cut back on lots of my memberships over the years.

I agree whole heartedly that the NRA can be very pushy. I joined to help support our 2A rights, but not a week goes by that I don't get some crazy confusing email about some insurance, or wine, or pin, or hat, or other garbage they want me to buy. I get membership renewal notices which I think they started sending before I even got my welcome package and membership card. I would be a bit put out if they sent any unsolicited packages to my house expecting me to do something with them.

I think the NRA is a very important thing to have. I think they have done a tremendous amount of work in keeping our country free. I think a yearly membership is the LEAST I can do to support freedom, but their incessant fund raising attempts are annoying and presumably costly. A membership to the NRA should be something to be proud of, not a 'necessary evil'

Agreed. As we know, "all politics is local" which is why I perfer to be a member of State level gun rights groups such as La Shooting Association (LSA) and La Open Carry Awareness League (LOCAL). Lot's less mail that way and my money goes to supporting efforts which affect me closely.

Not that it makes much difference (they're selling their mailing list in order to raise money), but a lot of the stuff folks complain about is not coming from the NRA, but a third party to which they've sold their mailing list.

The DVDs, wine clubs, etc are all probably sent by a third party-think someone in an earlier post noted the fine print sent with the DVD noted as much.

I've been through the same things as most in here, but I didn't let it raise my blood pressure. Don't remember how I did it (been so long ago), but I think I contacted both the NRA and signed up with the government's no call registry etc-I no longer receive anything from any of the third parties.

AFA the DVDs-you're probably just throwing meat to the lions by having any contact with them (they think they have you hooked, they just haven't quite set it yet)-if you really want 'em to stop, just:
1. Keep the DVD
2. Toss everything from 'em in the trash
3. You'll probably eventually get a call wanting payment for it, at which time you will inform the person on the other end of the United States Postal Inspection Service - Receipt of Unsolicted Merchandise rules/regulations (you did bookmark the earlier link, didn't you?).
4. While you're at it, tell 'em they're welcome to send any more unsolicted DVDs your way if they so desire (free is always good)!

I can guarantee you'll no longer have those folks bothering you when they know you know the score AFA unsolicted items, and they tend to wander off when you don't send money for the stuff they send you.

Ain't no use getting worked up over nuttin'....

Amazing, simply amazing!

"The NRA threw me and my brother machine gunners under the bus in 1986 when they supposedly gave up a little liberty for a little security "

I didn't know the NRA had the ability to pass laws in this country. Gosh, the things I learn on the internet and I was alive and following the issue back then.

:banghead:

No NRA bashing here. Just a suggestion or two.

I fairly regularly get junk mail from NRA or NRA affiliated people. I got the DVD and coin too. I have received several emails requesting me to either pay for it or send it back. I ignore them. Since the stuff was unsolicited, I am not obligated to do anything at all about it.

I usually return most unsolicited junk mail back to the sender in the prepaid envelope they provide, but in the case of the NRA, I'll do them a favor and just feed it all to the shredder.

I do regularly submit emails to the NRA voicing my displeasure at the amount of money they spend on this crap. You can all do that too.

You are all dues paying members. Let them know that you don't like it!

This issue comes up almost by-weekly, and members still don't get it. Maybe the #8 is missing from most phones.

Yes, this. A thousand times this. It's just that simple.

Only one NRA bashing thread a month. We just finished the January edition yesterday. Wait until Feb 1 to start another please......
