the original article confuses a Keltec sub 2000 for a class three
weapon, "sub machine gun" an assault rifle is also a class three
like a M16A1 which can also shoot semi auto as it has the nifty 3 way selector switch.
The Bushmaster AR15 is populary called an "assault weapon"
but it's really just a plain old semi auto that looks scary to an uninformed and biased media.
Don't help them by refering to them as assault rifles!
They are Sport Utillity Rifles!...which are legal in some parts of NY.

More likely the sarge took 'em when he retired. He probably assumed the couple wouldn't be getting back together and that the husband would end up prohibited from reclaiming them by a court order.

That was my first thought, but the second was "Who says he waited until he retired?"
