Old sizer die

I have an old Sizer die I just acquired, on the die itself it states "30-06 Sizer"
but it doesn't have any "clues" as to whether or not it is just a neck sizer or a FL. How do you tell what it is? What is the difference in the construction?

As far as I can tell, pulling the decapping rod up and out, there seems to be no taper in the die cavity.

If this die is a plain cylinder with a separate rod to eject the case then you have an old Lyman full length sizer hand die. This die was meant to FL resize cases to be loaded with True Line Jr or Tong tool presses that could only neck size only. This die was meant to be used in a large bench vise(easiest way) or a hammer. This way you could resize and chamber surplus 30-06 cases. I started out with one over 40 years ago. BTW, that case had to be lightly lubed. or you would never get it out of that die. Memories.....!

This die looks like any other decapping/sizer die that you can buy. It has the typical threading with a lock ring and all. The INSIDE is what I was talking about the cavity of the die....

Is there a way to tell if it is a full length or neck sizer?

Just coat a case with lube and run the case thru the die. If it's a FL size die, it will remove the lube from the whole case. If a neck sizer the lube will be removed from the neck and shoulder only. A similar way is to smoke your case withlamp black from a candle and run the case thru your die. Make sure there is some lube in your die first.
