Opening day today, almost like last year 65 sunny with several hours of pea soup fog, with one glaring exception. I was at work today:( On a good note my co-worker took off for the NJ bear hunt up in the northern part of the state. He didn't get a shot off but had one within 100yds, but couldn't get a clear look. I'll be going out saturday and then again next week. We can't both be out at the same time, since he drew a bear permit he got this week! We will likely alternate here and there throughout january.

Very true, my buddy who is bear hunting has been archery hunting on and off all season. he got a big doe in september, and has passed on several other does since, he's horn hunting now! I can't shoot a bow, so it's firearm's for me. Incidentally he got banged up bear hunting, so he's convalescing in a tree stand locally for deer now!

I finally got out yesterday, other than being a nice day, and falling asleep a few times wholly unproductive. I almost stepped on a grey fox on the way in before sunup, which very nearly gave me a coronary. I had a doe walk by me in the predawn mist close enough to see her in the fog, after that.... nothing but birds all day. Saw some fresh tracks in the rain washed trails but that was as close as i got all day. Hunting clubs driving in the distance scared nothing up my way. Only other thing of note was i nearly got lost on the way out! Got turned around in the waning light. Had to backtrack some and break out the compass, after that got straitened out immediately.
