I'm thinking about getting CZ's SP-01 Tactical (decocker model) to replace my FN BDAO (DAO Hi-Power) as my HD pistol, and I'd appreciate any opinions/info about this pistol that anyone here can share. Thanks.

I've had one for about 3 months. Great gun if you've got medium to large size hands. Not so good for small hands or short fingers.

Very accurate and fun to shoot. Weighs a ton. The weight soaks up almost all the recoil making follow-up shots a breeze.

The trigger is a bit rough. Definitely a field grade trigger and not a target grade trigger. You'll want to find someone to do a trigger job if you looking for a serious target gun.

The trigger reach is very long. It's fine in SA mode, but when shooting from a hammer down position I can barely reach the trigger.

The springs are weighted for the hot 9mm rounds used by the Czech state police and often will not reliably cycle standard 9mm ammo. Replace the 22lb stock recoil spring with a 15lb or 16lb spring and it will run fine.

I wish the total package was a little smaller, but it's my favorite range gun and I could shoot it all day long.

It's the fastest handling pistol I've ever shot in terms of follow up shots. 9mm caliber plus that all steel frame with full length dust cover and it's just built to put controlled pairs downrange. Too heavy for CCW, but definitely good for HD.

(I'd note I also have large hands, so RNB65's previous comments about the gun for smaller handed folks may be an issue.)

I just received a CZ 75 SP-01 Tactical (it's a 'rob Peter to pay Paul' deal with money put aside for P220C SAO). I took it to the range last weekend and sent 250 rounds of Remington UMC 115grn downrange. My thoughts:

1) It just looks cool. Reminds me of something out of Blade Runner. :p
2) Since I had one I put an M3 light on the rail. Decreases the already small muzzle flip.
3) Surprisingly accurate. I was doing 18 round fist sized groups at 25 feet at a fairly quick pace (<= 1 shot per second)
4) I like the grips. The thumb rest on the left side works nicely.
5) I had three malfunctions; 1 FTFeed around the 50 round mark (not first or last in mag), 1 FTFeed around the 100 round mark (not first or last in mag), 1 double feed around the 150 round mark. Other than that ran fine. I'll give a gun a break for the first 500 rounds. If I see malfunctions after that I start getting concerned.
6) Very nice balance, especially with the M3. Very pointable pistol.
7) This is a range gun so I didn't do much double action with it. It's not bad, but would take some practice to get good with it. The additional movement would smooth it out even more.
8) The decocker has a wierd feel to it; you push it a long way and it doesn't do anything and stops. You have to push even farther down which then drops the hammer to the safety notch.
9) Loading 18 rounds into a mag takes a while. Shooting it doesn't take nearly as long. :D

I don't think it would be a good concealment gun, but put the M3 on it and it would be a great 'nightstand gun'. 18 rounds of 124grn Gold Dots is an impressive defense package in anyone's book. :)

All in all I'm pretty happy with mine. I doubt it will be a 'keep it forever' gun, but I'm pleased enough to shoot it until something else catches my fancy. :) BTW, if anyone has a new/like new SP-01 non-tactical (aka safety rather than decocker) they want to trade for a Tactical give me a yell. :)
