USA, I travel alot.
I am looking into getting a High Cap 45.

The ones I am looking at are:

HK USP
Glock
Para

I would like to hear from owners of the above guns, likes, dislikes, and so on......

The USP is a much better pistol than either of the other two in my opinion. Although not a high cap the Sig 220 is a great choice also. What are you planning on using it for besides CCW?

I have the USP .45, and it is right at the ragged edge of 'concealable'. It is truly big. Think full size 1911, but with bigger grip. The compact .45 is smaller. That said, I think the USP 45 is a really good gun. Honestly, I use mine at the range, and as a "Dinner gun" - since here in VA we have to open carry in ABC restaurants, no need to bother trying to conceal it...

The Para will be a bit heavier given the all metal construction. I don't think prohibitively so, but something to consider.

Defer to the glock-o-philes on the g30. The .45's of this breed don't have the same following, I'm not sure why.

One thing the H&K has is that you can reconfigure it - DA/SA, cocked & locked, decocker only or LEM / DAO.

FWIW, I have 4 other .45 ACP's, 3 of which may be carried concealed. They are:

EAA Witness full size - Inexpensive, reasonably accurate.
EAA Witness compact - as above.

Both do not have a decocker, which I prefer. Also, it's possible for me to insert the magazine to both hard enough to prevent the slide from going forward.

S&W 325PD - wheel gun, very light, stout recoil, but a nice, accurate and reliable piece.

The H&K is easily the most mechanically accurate of these from my observations.

So, do you want a high capacity gun or a concealable one?

And, ya I know, someone out there carries their Desert Eagle in an ankle holster and it's the best solution to CHL. Some of us, however, must continue to live in the real world.

I carry full time, at work, everywhere I go and I live in a year round hot climate. Carrying a single stack successfully is an art. Carrying a monster gun concealed is a fantasy.

Apologies to those of you that carry your Berettas year round under your sealskin parkas.

Have 2 1911's now, a glock 20 (have no problems concealing the glock under a bid shirt). Always wanted a High Cap 45. Me thinks I will go with the USP. Found one on GA for $685 + $15 shipped to my FFL. Is that a good price, or can I do better?

Check out the Kimber BP series. Not only are they the cheapest gun in their line up, but the grip maximum thickness is just a tad more than a standard 1911 at it peak thickness. Its just thicker all around instead of tapering as much as a standard grip.

My Kimber TLE II Custom mics 1.264" just below the top of the double diamonds by the mag release. My Pro BP TEN II is 1.228" at its thickest just below the thumb safety. The TLE rubber grips are a bit thicker than most smooth wood grips.

I believe that is where Kimber gets their frames. They have models in 5" 4" and 3.5" barrels. The 5&4" are 13 round mags, the 3.5" has a shorter grip and only takes 10-rounds.

Thanks again Wally. I was looking at more info, the USP grip is about the same size as the Kimber BP. BTW, Wally, how does the 5 and 4 in BP shoot? Any problems out of them>?

I've owned a Glock 21, USP .45 compact and a USP fs 9mm. All three have been reliable in my experience. Had the Glock for about 6 months and 1000 rounds. Got rid of it because it was ugly and inaccurate. That last problem stemmed from another peeve of mine - I absolutely despise the Glock trigger. Take note that it wasn't a bad pistol, just a bad pistol for me.

While I can't comment specifically on a full size USP .45, I will vouch for the USP platform as being ergonomic for many shooters and versatile as a carry piece. Cocked and locked? Decock? Decock with safe? No problem. My USPs have been the most reliable and accurate pistols I have ever fired. Recoil is minimal and they're a joy to shoot. Highly recommend.

go for the GOLD i mean GLOCK

get a glock g30. it is small and with a normal mag it will hold 10 rounds BUT on your belt you can have a double mag case with full size mags that fits the g21 ( full size .45 in glock ) with plus twos and have 15 rounds of love in each mag, with two mags thats 30 round of love, with the 10 rounder in the gun that makes 40 rounds of ..thats right :D LOVE ! :D the full size mags of the g21 will fit in the g30  enjoy

I own a Para P12, P13, and LDA12, all in .45 ACP. Despite being double stack, the grip isn't actually any wider (thicker) than a standard 1911 at its thickest point, but the thickness carries farther forward on the Paras. The P13 has a Commander length barrel and a slightly shorter grip frame than a full-size Government 1911, and the P12 uses a 3-1/2" barrel and an even shorter grip frame. I don't feel they are any more difficult to conceal than a Commander-size single stack 1911.

I own three Para's as well: a C7-45LDA (not a high-cap, therefore not germane to the conversation), a Stealth Hi-Cap, and a Colonel. The Stealth is a 5", 14 round, full-size gun. There is no way it would qualify as a readily concealable pistol. The Colonel, however, does. It has a 4.25" barrel, and uses 14 round mags. It is not tough to conceal at all, especially with a proper holster.

Whatever you decide to get, enjoy it.

Thanks for all the info... I have narrowed it down, either a Para Stealth or HK USP. Now I just have to make my mind up before the gun hitler, aka my wife, spends it on furniture.

I have a Taurus Millenium pro that holda 10+1 it's ultra compact and cost me $275 NIB has eaten 1000 rounds without nary a hiccup even when I loaded a mag with 10 different types of ammo from SWC to JHP and FMJ's from different manufaturers. It's very accurate and the Millenium PRO version fixed all the little nasty bugs the original milleniums had.

It's proven it'self enough now that I carry it. I think it's a great combo 11 rounds of .45ACP and it fits in the front pocket of my jeans.

I have the 4" and 3.5" Kimber BP. Both shoot exceptionally well and ahave really good triggers. I had some mag issues with the 3.5" but the 4" has been 100% out of the box. No extraction problems with either.
