Went out with my 1874 Sharps this morning. This was my second time shooting black powder out of it(ok, actually Pyrodex until I track down the real stuff). My old load was 28 grains of Accurate 5744 under a 405 grain hard cast bullet. Now I'm shooting a 500 grain bullet over 60 grains of Pyrodex. I used to think this rifle was a pussycat, but holy cow it kicks now! 60 grains isn't much powder, but that's a lot of lead.

Still a lot more fun than smokeless....and everyone on the firing line comes over during cease fires to see what's booming and making all the smoke. This stuff is addictive:D

I know what you mean, I hardly ever pull my modern guns out any more except maybe my .45ACP for a refresher with it but otherwise I've gone all Black now.

As far as the sore sholder, My CVA Bobcat .50cal with the plastic stock sure beat me up last weekend but wouldn't have it any other way..:D

The worst part about today was that I wanted to shoot my .50 CVA Sharpshooter, but I forgot my patches at home:banghead: At least I had the Sharps.

funny you guys mention this. I got all into my .50 cal inline when i first got it. I went out and bought different powders and all kinds of bullets. Then i bought a mold. Now i have hundreds of bullets. The funniest part about it is though. When ever i go to the range usually after about 8 shots, im done. Thats it. Between my son and i were lucky if we put 20 rounds through it. Its amazing the raw power and strength of that gun. Every time we shoot it. Your sore. But everyone is trying to find who shot the cannon. Then they see what you have and how you load it. Then they are totally impressed. I LOVE IT.
