I took both of these for their 1st trip to the range today. The M&P I bought new, the P239 I stumbled on used. I went through ~500 rounds of WWB & Federal ammo in 115 & 124 FMJ/115 & 147 JHP with no hiccups in either gun.
I shot slightly better at 15 & 20 yards with the Sig & was slightly faster with follow up shots with it also (might be my technique). The trigger on both was very pleasant & the felt recoil was very mild. My wife shot two mags through both & shot better groups than she normally does with her Bersa .380.
I like the capcity of the S&W, but the Sig has a stellar reputation & the S&W is still earning it's reputation 100% so far. Both are excellent guns, very simular in size. I like the decocker on the Sig, I like the capacity of the S&W.
Now i have a dilema, which to carry?
Opinions, experiences?

Strap 'em on and compare! I believe that the holster and carry technique you'll use are as important as the weapon chosen. I am a died-in-the-cordovan Milt Sparks VM II for CCW.

That's part of the problem. They both fit the CTAC & High noon holster (VM copy) & both shoot/carry exellent. I'm carrying the Sig on this trip. I like the convenience of the CTAC clips because I get in & out of the car alot, but the VM2 copy I have is very comfortable.

One minor "beef" I have with the M&P C is its "chunkiness." In other words, it is short on each end, but the slide width - probably necessary for strength as the same gun is made in .40 and even .357 SIG - makes it less comfortable to carry IWB than its shortness would suggest. (And I do have a first quality holster - UBG Canute - as well as a Beltman belt, to carry it in/on.) Slim nines like the P239, S&W 3913, etc. are more comfortable to carry. (At the cost of four rounds in the magazine, too.;)) It is not a big difference and certainly does not stop me from carrying it, but there is a difference nonetheless.

Last Friday I handled a S&W M&P compact at one of the local shops. Though a nice a feel, it felt top heavy to me and kinda chunky as well. The Glock 26, and I am not big Glock fan, felt a lot better in a side by side comparison. The Sig 239 is a little top heavy to me as well but I prefer the gun over the M&P because of it's overall shape. But the Sig's a lot more money too.

Last year I was in the market for a single-stack carry gun. I went shopping for a 239 SAS in .40 caliber, but ended up buying a Glock 36. Either way, I prefer a single-stack for carrying.

I like my M&P, and my Glocks, but, my 239 will shoot tighter groups at 25 yards than the M&P, or the Glock will at 15.
I like that the 239 is slimmer, for carry.

Sig vote here

I'd go with the Sig P239. I like single stack and feel that 9 rounds of 9mm is enough ammo for almost any eventuality. The Sig also has a nice trigger feel and can be decocked. Finally, it just looks better.
