For primary CCW, worn high OWB. Both feel good in my hand. I like the Glocks I've shot, haven't fired a Walther. The Walther is another $50 or so.

Walthers seem to have a reputation for being very accurate. Both of these 9mm pistols should be very reliable.

I understand Walther has brought the AS trigger back, but I might prefer the consistent QA trigger, haven't decided.

Is a P99C difficult to get good leather for?

How would you compare these two?

I went through this same thing.

I went to the local gunstore. Fondled the P99C (AS & QA), the Glock 26, the XD compact, USP compact, and whatever else I could think of.

I went away with the P99C AS and was fairly happy - for a while. I had always hated Glocks, so it wasn't too hard of a decision at the time.

I quickly found that getting good leather (or kydex) sucked. Finding accessories (specifically sights) also sucked. One problem is that the trigger guard on the P99C was changed to be different from the full sized P99s. The P99s have changed to the newer type now (I think) but the manufacturers still aren't on board AFAIK.

I also found that the mag release was difficult for me to use. Now, I've shot extensively with P7's so I thought the guard mounted flipper would be right up my alley, but this thing was very difficult to move. They have since redesigned the release and while I'm sure it works, it looks ridiculous to me and I think my fingers would be in the wrong place.

I also wanted something that I could take out, use and abuse and not feel guilty about. I wanted a wide range of sights to try out, and I wanted to have leather and kydex readily available. Finally, I have started to do a good bit of training, and I wanted to have something that was COMMON so that if the thing ever broke at a class or anywhere else, I could get parts quickly and cheaply.

The P99C just didn't meet any of those. So I sold her off and grudgingly bought that ugly piece of chunky plastic Glock 26; and... I love it.

I should have bought one years ago. GOOD leather is EASY to find for it - Milt Sparks VM2's and SSIIs are no problem. I have a really nice set of Custom Glock Racing Operator sights on it. Mags are cheap and plentiful. I run a G26 in it and keep a G19 in the spare carrier. And best of all, the thing just runs and runs and runs and runs. Clean, dirty, wet, muddy, whatever, it just goes bang every single time I pull the trigger.

I guess my focust has changed to being striclty utilitarian oriented. And this is the right tool for my toolbox.

Edited to say:
Yeah, the AS trigger is SWEET. But then I like traditional DA/SA guns. The decocker is weird, but wasn't really a problem for me. The QA was OK, but to me, not any better / worse than the Glock. It is nice having the magic button on it so you can decock it without having to pull the trigger like on a Glock just to field strip it. The flip side is that magic button (if somehow pressed while fighting off an assailant) puts the gun out of commision. You gotta bring the slide back a little again to get it up and running. Glock has a similar issue in that there is no restrike on a dud.

Just get it over with, go to the darkside and buy the Glock :)

I voted P99C AS trigger. I have three fullsize P99s with the AS trigger and I really like it with the short reset and light pull.
Accessories and add ons are not common or cheap for the Walthers, factory mags are around $40.
I have shot Glocks and they just dont work for me, but that is my personal opinion.
I still need to buy a P99 Compact AS.

Autospike - thanks for the helpful post.

I'm am kinda worried about finding good leather. I don't think Kramer does the P99C, and HighNoon looks like they only cover the standard P99. :scrutiny: I can't believe no top-notch leather companies don't cover the P99C, but I haven't really shopped yet either.

Oh, I used to *think* I hated Glocks too. It's fashionable afterall! ;) But once I spent some time with a G30 and G23, everything changed. The grip angle so many people complained about didn't bother me.

I'm still thinking on this one...

Dollar,

Kramer did NOT have one when I was looking. It's all about what's in the hands of most shooters.

Do you have other Glocks? If so, I think the answer would be even more simple for me.

One other thing that I didn't mention is that the G26 switch was easy because I knew that I could get a range of guns in different sizes but with almost identical feel and manual of arms (G17, G19, G34).

I have a gas Airsoft Glock 26 clone that I use for home based (not at range) "dry firing", malfunction drills, reloads, and frightening the cat :). It's just a supplement - not a substitute for doing it for real on the range - well I don't hunt the cat at the range...

And, the training that I have attended has relied heavily on the use of Glock 17Ts (which fire Simunition FX rounds).

Listen, the Walther is a fine pistol. If I were just wanting to put one in the collection, I wouldn't hesitate. It's just that I personally have had a sort of epiphany regarding my self defense strategies and the Glock fit in with what I was looking for.

my 2 cents is on the G26, cause thats what i carry
Seriously though, shoot both guns then decide for yourself. I decided on a glock because i owned a G17 prior to my G26, and it felt good in my hands. Also, Glocks are one of the most reliable semi-auto's out there, and for a carry gun thats critical. Finally, glocks are SIMPLE, no DA/SA transition, no safety, just point and shoot.

I carried a Glock 26 for 8 years. Got a chance to rent a P99 last year after I discovered that they have a similiar tennifer finish. Sold my Glock 26 and got a P99 compact afterwards. I am much happier. Even had the P99 hard chromed.

There are tons of holsters for the P99compact. Any leather fullsize P99 holster will work for the compact. I used to use a Glock 19 Galco holster for 8 years with the Glock 26. The larger holster actually worked better. No muzzle sticking out of the bottom of the holster that you can hit on hard objects (like a wood bench). I do the same with my P99c. There is actually just a tiny bit of leather that goes past the end of the muzzle on the P99.

I use a Bianchi 7L. Almost got another Galco Fletch, but wanted to try a different brand.

Shipwreck - That aftermarket finish looks really good!

Things I like about the Glock - Less expensive, same trigger pull every time, better selection of good quality leather, cheaper extra mags, a little shorter & thinner for CCW than the P99C.

I think any inherent accuracy difference between the two would be irrelevant at self defense ranges anyway.

Well, U can set the gun to be carried "cocked" if U wish - in SA mode. So, U could theoritically keep it the same pull everytime.

I love the p99c in AS. Personally I like a traditional double action like that, and the trigger reset on the p99 is one of the best I've ever felt. If you get a holster made for a 2004 or later fullsize P99, it will fit the p99c with obviously a very small amount of excess at the end. Finding one for the p99c only might be a bit harder, but since I have both, I just got a holster that fits the full size model and carry both in it. Some holster makers only will make for the pre-2004 p99, so if you want from a certain manufactuer you might want to check with them first.
