PA-63 for CCW ??

I have one that I occasionally carried when I worked nights on The Trail in Orlando..

Other than the horrendous trigger and the grip swell on the left side it worked well in the pocket of my dockers.

If I could get some flat grip panels I might use it in an ankle holster.
I can't carry IWB because of uniform restrictions.

the gun has a trigger job already, it a nice trigger pull.
Where did you get it done. The trigger is the main reason it doesn'ty get much use..

That and the fact that I don't work nights in the worst part of town, so I have no need to carry 3 guns on me anymore

Those grips are not original. They had to be put on to make import "points" under GCA '68.

The main problem I had with the trigger was not the weight but the sharpness of the trigger grooves. I have ground some smooth for friends and have seen here where some people filled the grooves with epoxy. Unless something is done, you will bleed all over the gun.

The trick would be to find a sufficiently strong pocket winch to pull that nasty DA trigger back.

Other than that, it's a Makarov clone, so it would be reliable. Beats harsh language, for sure.

Joab, the shop that has it for sell has a gunsmith that does great work, he did the trigger job. Wildalaska, what would your suggestions be? Here in North Carolina, it gets pretty warm in the summer, so I need to keep that in mind for CCW.

I'm glad someone else said that. I have actually cut my finger on those blades.
A friend told me to use Shoe Goo.

I have seen the trigger job before somewhere on the net just can't remeber where.

I wish I could find some original or originalish grips for mine.
But I'm using a CH85 for now anyway

While I don't disagree that he might be better served with a Mak, in the interests of truth and curmudgeonliness I have to point out that a PA-63 is hardly a copy of a Mak.

(Grump, grump, grump. ;) )

The PA 63 is more of a copy of a PPK then it is a copy of the Makarov.

The Makarov is the same relative size as a PPK, but it is an original design and uses fewer parts than the PPK. In my view, the Mak is better then both the PA 63 AND the PPK.

I wouldn't carry a PA 63 on a bet. The gun sounds good, but shooting it tells the tale. Buy a Mak for about the same price and be done with it.

My son has all my pistols to choose as a knock about carry piece in Hawaai and about. He choose a P-63:very concealable, cheap if you lose it, more power than a .380, Cheap ammo, always goes bang, reasonable accurate. He did not like the RK-59 (shrunk down and flat p-63) as the recoil of the 16 oz gun is more severe he likes the thumbrest! He carries the gun everywhere and strips and cleans the sand & salt water out of it easily, don't call him stupid he has a PHD in physics!:D

The gun is fine but is no where near the quality and accuracy and reliability of the Makarov. For the money, in that caliber, get a Makarov and load it with some Silver Bear 1150 fps 120 gr. HP from Russia for about $5 for 50 rounds in quantity. AND the Makarov will last hundreds of thousands of rounds longer than the PA63.

I have a PA-63 that I've had for years... used it as a back packing gun, range toy, nightstand gun, etc.

I've never had a jam (fingers crossed) but I have seen /felt the slide 'slow down' on some kinds of hollow points...

There MIGHT be better guns for CCW... but very few that can be had for $100, which is about what I paid for mine in.380.

Yeah the trigger is gritty, the grooves sharp, the sights small... but what do you want for a $100? It goes bang when you pull the trigger and it's reasonably accurate.
