Dura coat

I never took on the job because I could never get all the oil out of the stock on the 31/91's. But I do wood stocks on occasion. When some one wants a durable semi tactical finish on a wood stock. I sand the stock to remove the finish then use a two part auto primer (2K) with a couple of coats, then duracoat for the final finish.
It ends up looking and feeling like a fiber glass stock. The stock is sealed pretty good and resists moisture. Just my two cents.

If you want the paint to dry a little faster (oil based is slow) add a LITTLE bit of Japan Drier, that is actually the name of the chemical. Be very careful with this stuff it really really accelaerates drying time you have to be quick. If you add too much you may find your brush (if you decide to brush it on) stuck to the stock lol. Also only add it to a small portion of your paint. That is if you want to use it, you might get a smoother end result without it, because your paint will have time to flow out while drying. I would test it first without any japan drier on a piece of scrap to see if you are satisfied with drying time.

I'm doing something similar with my M44. I sanded the stock down to the bare wood, and doing a stain and Tung oil finish, while rebluing the metal parts.

Strip the stock back down. Get rid of brush mark's, runs and other gubbers. Then spray paint it.
