4.9 grns of bullseye with a 230 grn Rem FMJ, CCI 300 primers, starline brass 1.272 col. That gives me 830 fps out of a 1911 so I was happy. Very accurate load!

I can personally endorse 231 and Clays powders, and I'm about to give Titegroup a try, having heard many good things about it. A friend of mine was a long-time Bullseye shooter, and we used to have discussions over the relative merits of 231 v. Bullseye in the .45 ACP....no more, for he came to the clearing at the end of the trail a few years ago. I am currently shooting 4.3 gr. of Clays with a Rainier 200 gr. FP, which is pretty nice. The only reason I switched from 231, however, was due to what I feel is a bit softer recoil.

Trickasafox...No crimp on my .45 ACPs and I use W-231 and have little or no unburnt powder. Atleast I haven't seen any. Of course I really haven't gone looking for unburnt powder either. :D

Sako_75...My loads for Jacketed bullets is posted near the beginning of this string. :scrutiny:

My Springfield Lightweight Loaded likes the following loads...

Zero 230gr. FMJ, 8.0gr. Accurate #5, CCI LPP, 1.25" OAL

Tennessee Valley Bullet Company 200gr. LSWC, 8.0 gr. Accurate #5, 1.24 OAL

I recently bought a pound of Clays to try to try to get a little lower velocities/pressures in my alloy-framed pistol.

You can now add me to the list of Titegroup fans. I shot my 2nd batch of my new pet .45acp load this weekend. Very pleased with the cost and the result. The load is:

200gr. Laser-cast round-nose ball
5.2gr. Titegroup
CCI Large pistol primer

I was wondering about muzzel flash from Titegroup, since my PT-145 has a pretty short barrel. Muzzle flash for this load is non-existant. Less than Unique, and MUCH less than whatever Remington is using in their UMC ball.

Titegroup is also very, very position independent; meaning that the powder can be way forward, way back or scattered all about the inside of the case and reliably ignite. Makes for small variances in bullet velocities.

This is why it is so popular a powder in 45 Long Colt with the very large case and normally 5-7 gr load of smokeless in a case designed to hold 40gr of black powder.

230 FMJ, 5.6 gr. of Win 231
ditto! :D

or 230 FMJ, 5.7 gr. of Bullseye a true hardball load! ;)

For 200g lead SWC (Laser Cast bullet) I use 5.4g W231 (just like all those other guys).

I crimp to .469"

Oh, my primer of choice is the Winchester Large Pistol.

IIRC the standard "military" hardball load was a 230 grain jacketed round nose over 4.6 grains of Bullseye powder. (Note that the version of Bullseye used in loading military ammo may have differed slightly from the cannister versions available to handloaders.)

A light target load is a 200 LSWC over 3.5 grains of Bullseye, good for about 640 ft/sec out of a Gold Cup.

A slightly heavier target load is the same bullet with 4.2 grains of Bullseye, good for about 750 ft/sec.

My standard load used in local IDPA/USPSA matches is a 230 grain round nose over 4.8 grains of 700-X, which duplicates hardball in my Les Baer Premier II. (Around 830 - 850 ft/sec) I used to shoot a LOT of shotgun, and used 700-X in my trap and skeet loads. It was cheap when purchased in 12-lb kegs.

Use an indoor range so a lighter cast 185gr SWC with Hodgins HP-38 of 5.1 gr, or Unique of 5.2 gr or Green Dot of 4.9gr. All seem to do well.

Sako,
I use a Hornady 200 gr XTP/JHP, CCI primers and 6.0 grains of W-231. If you rather use the 185 gr XTP, the 6.2 works real well. For playing, the same weight in a cast bullet with 5.5 grains of W-231 works nice. The XTP loads are max so work up to then.

smith 1911 loads

I just bought a smith 1911 and have been breaking it in over the last 4 wks. I have found what I would call a miracle powder. its Power pistol it seems to work for everything fromm 44 mag to 38 special......so far no jams and I'm up to about 600 rnds without cleaning; all power pistol.......go figure. :D
