A facebook photo of a man sitting at a diner, with a holstered pistol that appears to be a Glock in a Serpa holster, is getting quite a bit of attention.

The question is asked "If you were in a public place, would you feel comfortable with this sitting 10 feet away from your children?"

The comments are overwhelmingly positive, ranging from

"My children and grandchildren are very knowledgeable about weapons. They would be discussing velocity, and range with the man."

to

"I bet that place won't get rob while he's there. Yea I would feel safe."

There are a very few slightly negative comments.

There are nearly 95,000 comments.

This says quite a bit about the normalization of open carry.

I remember that, I left a comment about finding an instant friend. Common interests being what they are

I love the ones that say he could be a bad guy just waiting to kill them all. Yet look at the workers. They know he's armed and they aren't scared. Even the guy next to him doesn't look interested. Just another day at the diner.

While I'm not a huge fan of open carry, I'm not opposed to those that choose to carry open. It is less clothing to have to move should they need to quickly access their weapon.

The only thing I don't like about that photo is that if it were to ever happen, that guy is begging for a gun grab. Serpas are easy to disengage, and the mechanism is easy to figure out just by looking. The guy is sitting on a stool with his back exposed in a high traffic area, wearing his gun at about 4:30. Kudos to him for OC'ing, but he needs to learn to choose where he sits, and how he wears his gun a little better.

I agree. Always (if possible) face the entrances. Can't see danger coming from behind you.

But, we also don't know the current populace of the diner. It may have been the only place to sit. Many times that is the case at a good diner.

Yep. If openly-armed people are so dangerous, why are gun shops, gun shows, and firing ranges not daily massacre sites?

Glad to see that positive response from people. +1 on the National Open Carry day. (or open holster for those in the Commie states)

beatledog7,
I don't think MrClean meant because the guy in the photo is OC that he's inviting a gun grab. I think he means because of the Serpa holster and him having his back turned to traffic. But it is true that the easier the gun is for the owner to grab, so too is it easier for the "grabber". But I still think the odds are pretty low.

people always talk about gun-grabbing whenever they see OC, but I personally have never heard of any cases...

they need to start providing actual examples instead of hypothetical, non-existant scenarios, the way they talk it should be happening all the time.

Agreed. People who "oppose" OC often bring up the gun snatch problem, but they can never cite a significant number of examples of it actually happening.

I'm willing to accept risk in life, especially the risk that my freedom to OC might make me the one OC'er of a few million who is targeted for an attempted gun snatch.

I put (Hell Yes) when I seen, that`s the way a lot of people around here go, I guess I know some that go CC..............

I have no problem being around OC guns and believe there is little downside to the publics exposure of decent everyday people going about their business with a gun.
Good holsters, awareness and the realization that the exposure of that gun in some ways increases our social responcibility/liability is important but it's a good thing.
As far as gun grabs, the subject always comes up with OC, Crossdraw, or Shoulder Holsters and in very specific scenarios, a lot of speculation but few examples.

I clicked wondering how one ends up getting a gun in their dinner and expecting to find someone had dropped their LCP in the mashed potatoes. Pleasant surprise to hear about all those positive comments.

Haha, quite "photo of man with gun in dinner"

On a more serious note, it looks like his holster has a retention button on it, wise to say the least.
