have a chance to pick up one or more of the following revolvers from an estate collection. I'm trying to place them in a priority order in case I have funds to get more than one:

- S&W, 36, Revolver, 38 Spl, Blue, 2" bbl, rnd butt (J)
- Ruger, Single 6, Revolver, 22 Rimfire, Blue, 5-1/2" bbl
- S&W, 10, Revolver (Military & Police), 38 Spl, Blue. 2" bbl, rnd butt(K)

What do you think of this order? The most trouble I have is deciding which S&W snubbie to get. Mdl 10 K frame, or Mdl 36 J frame? They aren't going to be backup guns, they are for occasional plinking fun and be enjoyed as part of my personal collection. I should mention the price is based on Blue Book, is it a good basis for revolver values? I'm also wondering about the following that may also be available. Would some of them be better value than Ruger Single Six?

- Hi-Standard, D-101, 2-BBl Derringer 22 Rimfire DAO
- HI-Standard, Sentinel, Revolver, 22 Rimfire, snubnose plinker
- J C Higgins, 88, Revolver, 22 Rimfire, 6" bbl plinker

Easy! Sears/JC Higgins 6" 22. S&W M10 snubbie with a round butt 38. There just aren't that many floating around. They aren't going to make anymore either.

If these are only for fun shooting and not serious matters, I'd drop the M36 to third place. For snubbie shooting the Model 10 has a smoother action and the larger sights make it easier to hit the target. For plinking fun nothing beats a Ruger Single Six.

Grab that model 10. The 2 inch barrel version is getting scarce. The Single Six is a fun gun to go plinking with. Does it have the magnum cyl. also?

Model 10 first (getting rare), Model 36 second (also getting rare and in good shape have some collector cachet), the Single Sixes are a dime a dozen and all the rest are junk...

Update!

Just came back from looking at them, and also some price negotiation, here's some more info for you guys to digest:

S&W, 10, Revolver (Military & Police), 38 Spl, Blue. 2" bbl, rnd butt(K)
This one is in good shape, 85% IMO. It cleaned up nicely, and its' version 10-5 if that is any significance. I think I can get it for $140 and maybe $125, comes in an incorrect holster.

S&W, 36, Revolver, 38 Spl, Blue, 2" bbl, rnd butt (J)
It's actually in pretty worn shape, I think it was a personal carrying gun. The worst part is that hammer has been bobbed...I was hoping for original condition. Other than that it's just bluing wear, but it's not shot much. I can probably get it for $150 and maybe $140.

Ruger, Single 6, Revolver, 22 Rimfire, Blue, 5-1/2" bbl
It's your standard SingleSix, nothing fancy, I think I'll pass but can probably get it at $175 price with leather holster.

HI-Standard, Sentinel Snubnose, Revolver, 22LR
2-3/8" snubnose, pretty cool 9shot, has original box if that matters. Pretty dirty to begin with, but cleaned up nice. Has some holster wear on the aluminum frame and top strap. I'd say 85% shape. Can probably get it for $110

J C Higgins, 88, Revolver, 22LR, 6" bbl
Probably a Sears brand Hi-Standard Sentinel, comes with original Sears holster (too bad Sears doesn't sell handguns any longer). Looks like that Sentinel if it had 6" bbl, also 9shot. Looks to be in better shape that snubnose. $85 is about as low as I think I can get him to sell.

So I'm going to get them as plinking guns and also as part of a collection. It looks like I"ll take S&W 10 as you guys suggested, and I'm also thinking of the JC Higgins/Sears 6" 22LR for plinking. The Ruger is nice but I don't see it as twice the plinker JC Higgins is (also JC Higgins is DA/SA). Will likely pass the S&W 36 due to its shape. What do you guys think of my choices? and the price?

S&W, 10, Revolver (Military & Police), 38 Spl, Blue. 2" bbl, rnd butt(K) -
$140 would be a good price for this revolver.
Get it!

Ruger, Single 6, Revolver, 22 Rimfire, Blue, 5-1/2" bbl -
You didn't mention the condition. If it's in good condition this would be a good price also. I would pick it up myself.

S&W, 36, Revolver, 38 Spl, Blue, 2" bbl, rnd butt (J) -
A bit more difficult to call. The M36 is a good little gun and desireable. It depends upon whether you need something like this or not.

The others I can't comment on.

For plinking, I would go with the Ruger Single Six first and the Model 10 second.
The .22 is as cheap as they come to plink with and the .38 ain't too bad either.

The best deal out of that bunch would be the S&W 10. $140 for a 2" is a pretty good deal. I would get that one first and see what kind of deal was to had on the others. I wouldn't mind having a Ruger Single Six but $175 is not a steal or anything. I would get the model 10 first and maybe the 36 if I could get it for a decent price. You can alway resell a 36 because theymake good CCWs.

Got them!

Here's an update: I got the S&W 10 for $140, Ruger Single Six for $150 and JC Higgins 88 for $75. Here are some pics. I had to leave S&W 36 behind as it was in pretty bad shape. Here are some pics:

"I got the S&W 10 for $140,"

Good going! If you will post the serial number, with any letter prefix and replacing the last three numbers with "x's" we can help you get the year your pistol was produced.

Here's the Sears JC Higgins Model 88, essentially a rebadged Hi-Standard Sentinel. If you have Sears catalogue from 50s and 60s, it could be listed there.
