Considering there has been somewhat of a dip in prices recently I'm wondering if I should take advantage of the cheap ammo and pick up an AK-74?

I've seen quite a few variations out there in cyberspace and I need to make sure I get a good one. I know the Tantals from Century go to the bottom of the list in lieu of something better. There are quite a few other manufacturers out there on sites like JG Sales, ClassicArms, Centerfire, and Atlantic Arms. Any suggestions or ones I should stay away from?

I'd do the Saiga, or find out if Atlantic sells STG-2000s that come in 545 config.
+1 to the Saiga, but -1 to the "STG-2000" suggestion (even though they don't come in 5.45x39).

Another +1 on the Saiga.
I love my 5.45 Saiga.
I 1/2 converted it,as the price to
do the barrel(HG retainer,GB,FSB) is
not worth it to me.

Yeah, that's commonly called a "basic conversion", not a "half conversion".

A "full conversion" ends up looking something like this:

Our on sale 74 rifles are built by Lancaster Arms and top notch builds backed up by a 5 year warranty .

I call it a 1/2 conversion,because it's done "half assed".
I'd love to build all my Saigas to "full conversion",but it's
just not worth the $$$.
