I can get a picture of a .357 round in an M1 carbine magazine. Happened today on the range trip. Anyway, it got me thinking more about an idea I had.

I figured that the carbine would be cheaper to feed if it was modified to take 7.62x25. Don't worry, it's a Kahr, a USGI wouldn't be used for such an experiment. Anyway...

The action and such is pretty straight forward, and seems pretty durable. Would it make sense to produce carbines in pistol calibers with this action? And don't start on the pistol calibers in carbines thing. This is purely technical. Fun plinking, and cheap feeding.

The only way rifle rounds will be mentioned in this thread is if someone wishes to comment on my other idea, of using modern ballistic science to build a 7.62x39 equivalent into a case about the size and shape of a .30 carbine case. I believe it's possible, and the 30 rounders for my carbine are about the same lenth as AR and M16 mags. I'm a follower of the crowd that prefers a larger bullet. Sue me.

The M1 Carbine is probably the premier choice for a 7.62X25 conversion. It seems that very little would need to be changed to complete the conversion.

I would love a carbine in 7.62X25 and I have considered this exact idea if I ever got a Khar M1 Carbine.

It would also seem that the actual power difference between the 7.62X25 and .20 carbine cartridges is releatively superficial. Go for it!

There was a company called LeMag Custom that used to offer converting your M1 carbine into a couple different calibers including 45 Winchester Mag. I have a friend who has one. I don't know if they are still business anymore.

I have shot a carbine chambered in .41 mag.

It was ok, except for the tendency to break all sorts of parts.

I would imagine you could find a PPsH-41 kit, or something similar for about the same money you would pay to convert your carbine.
