I just moved down to the indianapolis area and was wondering where everyone does their shooting? I am on the south side of Indy but just north of Greenwood. I was thinking about the Atterbury range but haven't made it there yet as it is still about 20 miles south of here and I will be mostly north of here. I will be working in the city and was wondering if there are any decent ranges in the city. I have googled them and seen lists of the ranges but was just looking for more of a personal opinion about which ones are the best. It has been a bit of time since my last range time so I am anxious to get some shootin done :D Thanks for any info.

A few of the choices:

Eagle Creek Park: pistols only outdoor range. Sometimes it is closed or has odd hours and it has never been open when I wanted to shoot.

Popguns: Indoor pistol range in a gun store, near east side. Crowded on Saturdays. Not a bad gun store. Relatively new and clean, well-lighted and well-ventilated range.

Wilbur Wright: state natural resources area, 25 and 50 yards outdoors, rifles and pistols. Free of charge. About a 45-50 min drive from the southside in Newcastle IN.

Don's guns: well-known (but not always in a good way) local gun dealer, has an in-store range in the Lafayette shopping area off 65 just north of downtown. Not particularly new, clean, well-lighted or well-ventilated. Wonderful selection of pimp guns, but not a great gun store otherwise.

Atterbury: I have not been to the new public range there, so I can't comment. I have been there to shoot in high power rifle matches on the military range, and it is an excellent facility for that purpose.

Thanks

Thanks for the info..looks like pops guns for indoor and atturbury for outdoors are the best bets.

Hello,

Pop Guns is a good facility with a knowledgable staff, but it is expensive and always crowded. Try Marion County Fish and Game. It is pistol-only, outdoors, with a sheltered firing line.
