While the cyl gap does seem on the loose end of the specs mine run from .006-.008"
I get a little spitting using max loads with heavy lead boolits & H-110 powder .
That said most revolvers will spit a little with max loads of a ball powder .
I feel a cyl gap of .006" with lead boolits is `bout as tite as I need being shooting lead is inherently dirtier more carbon/lead & lube build up than jacketed.
On another note it`s the nature of the beast so to say !
It is a major undertaking to lessen this measurement & should be done by compitent smiths ,if it spits very bad maybe a trip back to Ruger is warranted ???
Ask for a pick up box from Ruger ,ya never know till ya ask !
Shippin firearms is/can get expensive !!
GP100man, what are those blue inserts? They look like denim "micarta".
I've thought about making some denim "micarta" for knife handles and grip inserts.
Thanks GP100man. You and Ruger seem to agree on the gap as they said range was 0.003"-0.009" and mine is about 0.0085".
As for it "spitting", that is why I posed the question. Very little of the ammo I put through that gun will be bare lead so that shouldn't be a problem. Most will be JHP or SJHP, SJSP (aka SJFP), or FMJ.
Thanks for the info.
I got mine about 20 years ago at a gun show in Nashville. The Tennessee Highway Patrol had changed to semi-autos, according to the vendor. He had a table full of 4" stainless GPs. I started looking at them (they all looked new), and the 3rd or 4th one looked brand new-- it had dust in the barrel. I paid $250. The OEM grips are pretty, but feel a little thin side-to-side. I got some Hogue grips in black rubber, and it felt just right. It's the best shooting handgun I have ever owned, not counting the Contender. It's the only gun I own with a name (M'Gun.)
