I noticed on the S&W website that they dropped the MSRP of the new Bodyguard 380 to $399. So, I stopped by Cabela's. They had them in stock for... $499. Boo. So, I went down the street to Sportsman's Warehouse. Found them there for.. $359! :D It's one of the new frame styles. Didn't take much convincing to put one on layaway. I'm pretty excited...

i have a friend that has one. he loves it. he took it to the range for the first time the other day and had nothing but good things to say about it.

What changes have been made to the new guns? Someone had a Bodyguard .380 at the range stall next to me last time I went, and was continuously fiddling with it, taking it apart and cleaning it. Couldn't tell if he was having trouble with it or was just doing some super secret squirrel break-in on it. It wasn't grouping very well but when he turned on the laser I could see why!

I really hate the location of the button to activate the laser. Not exactly quick into action, but they're no doubt working around some strong IP from Crimson Trace.

Seeing i can get a Sig P238 for $450 id have a hard time taking the BG over it.
But its definitely right behind the P238 imo.
If they dropped the laser and the price to an even $300 it would outsell the LCP imo.

yea we can get them at a local shop for 379 now
I am interested in what changes have been made to yhe newer ones
because I'm considering one

I toyed with the idea of getting one, like I need another pocket gun, anyway I could buy one for .$395 + tax OTD but before I did I handled several in the store untill I found one the I could turn the lazer on with my index finger without having to use my off hand. I had the clerk put a temperary hold on it, because I had a chance to shoot someone's before I decided to buy. Well after shooting the .380 bodyguard, I wasn't impressed, found the trigger way to hard & long. Guess I'm just spoiled from the trigger on my Kahr P380. Ended up passing on getting it. LM

Check out http://www.bodyguard380.com/forums/index.php for all the info on them WRT issues, etc.. Nice site dedicated to the new 380 BG.

Now that they're selling for only around 30 bucks more than the LCP, with a laser, I think they might put Ruger's sales in check. Laser or not the BG sights are way better.

The new frames have a raised ring around the laser button. Apparently some issues have been resolved that the early adopters were dealing with, such as a slide stop problem. Also, I've read that people who just bought one before the price drop have called Smith with a complaint and been comped a couple mags. Can't hurt to try, I guess.

The Sig is a great gun, no doubt. A friend of mine has one. I personally just wasn't interested in "Condition 1" IWB or pocket carry, which is how I CC. Plus, $359 > $650!

Picked one up in the store one time. I needed two hands to reliably turn the laser on (and off).

I saw one for 399 at a gunshow this weekend, most people had them around 450.

A friend of mine is in the market for a 380, but he wants the sig because he's worried the S&W or LCP will get bent in his pocket. :)

Bent? LOL. I have a LCP that's been carried frequently for years. It's still in like new condition. You can't harm it. It's a little tank.

As far as the Sig, I own one as well. I'll say this -- I can shoot it 10x better than my LCP. It is a freakin' revelation for me -- a pocket gun that I can shoot almost as well as a full size. If you're not a great shot with anything, I would suggest looking into the Sig over any of the other pocket guns.

Looks like the BG uses a black-finished stainless slide just like their M&P pistols do- I have one of those in 9c and it's great. I should be able to pick my 380 up after Xmas so I'll give a range report. :)

Range report! Picked my 380 Bodyguard up this morning, s/n EAFxxxx. :D I went to my range & put about 100 rounds through it. About 40 WWB ball & 60 Fiocchi 90gr XTP. So far 100% reliability from shot 1, no hiccups or weirdness of any kind. I'm pretty excited about that! The front sight needs to be adjusted a bit & the laser was way off, but those are easy fixes. The included allen wrench makes the laser adjustment a breeze. I shot a bunch of the Fiocchi over my chronograph and they were pretty consistent at 880 fps. Off hand I was getting about 3" groups at about 25'. Not real sure where that velocity stands for the 2.75" barrel, I was hoping for a bit more. I plan on trying some other ammo types to see how accurate & how fast they shoot.

Interestingly a friend was there who just bought a LCP so we took turns shooting each other's pistols. The LCP was snappier and harder to hold on to due to the slightly smaller grip. It did however have a lighter trigger. Accuracy was more or less the same. The Smith's sights are way better, and the slide locking open on the last shot was a nice win for it as well. One big - for the LCP was that for both of us, upon firing it would pinch the bottom of the trigger finger between the trigger & the guard- that made strings not much fun. No such issue with the Smith.

So, first impression, I'm very happy with my new BG380!

That's great to hear GJgo! I picked one up the next day after reading your intial post in this thread actually. I haven't had an opportunity to get to the range yet but plan to do so this week. I can't wait!

I put another 50+ rds through the BG today, mostly Remington 88gr hp. They were clocking arounf 920fps. The gun has still maintained 100% reliability. :)

Debating if I should try some Buffalo Bore hard cast...

If you are paying retail you are paying to much. When in stock and they were untill the sale happened they were a very good deal. You should always check on davidsons gallery of guns as they will list the lowest price in your area. the bodyguards sold out quickly on their site but in my area they were selling after shipping and tax for under $375 from davidsons gallery of guns. I always check what I can get it shipped for before I think about buying a gun locally. Also remember no ffl fees either.

Very interesting. I'd love to get a chance to fire one. Got an LCP but I'm honestly not liking that gun. First gun I've tried that was that small though so I'm not sure if it's the size that's throwing off my aim, the sights, or just the gun in general. Would love to give the little S&W a spin to see if it works better for me.

There's a little indoor range that rents guns pretty close to me. I usually use a different range, but I'm thinking of going there and trying them out . . .

Looks like Cabelas finally got with the program. Just got a flyer, they have the BG on sale for $349 right now. :)

:scrutiny:
Huh, if that's so I'm really not interested in replacing the LCP for a BG....Thanks for the honest review!
