Prices on guns dropping

I don't know about prices here, but the demand is still there. The folks at the gun counter at our local big box sporting goods store told me they sold 90 handguns in one day last week.

Around here prices are dropping. The gun store I frequent had an unconverted Saiga 7.62 for $460.
Thats the average around these parts for a Saiga. The buying frenzy is over for the most part and I believe the people that bought the over priced SKS and AK's will never recoupe their lose. I also believe that the shops that charged the outragious prices will not see their gun sales return. I am one for sure that will not buy anything from the local stores in my area. I will depend on the net sites and gunshows. One shop in my area bought all the .40 cal WWB from a large box store that they had on the shelf for $12.95 X 50. The next night I used their range and paid $20 for WWB. How do I know, I was the next customer in line behind him and I didn't get any ammo. Sorry, did not mean to get off subject.....

The one shop that has ARs in has:
DPMS pather lite flattop= $950
Oly Arms reg AR= $900
Remmington varmit= $1150

The box store has Bushmasters (regular) for $1050.

Since he is the only shop stocked I am not sure if those prices are a good deal or not. I haven't been in the market for them so I am not sure I want to jump in yet. I havn't seen an ak in a while and the saiga 12s and 20 ae going for $550.

I personally work at Doc Hollidays Gun and Pawn store in Ozark MO and i can tell you that cost of firearms right now is still very high and by cost i mean dealer cost.

If you go a few miles north that doesn't seem to be the case. One of the shops I deal with in your area has kept prices low all along. Springfield XD9s are $489. Glock 26s $499. Maybe you should look at different distributors.

Refering to Saigas:

It's a cheap kid's rifle. I wouldn't pay $50 for one.

That's very amusing. I'll take all those cheap kid's rifles you can shovel at me for $50.;)

On Tuesday at Cabelas in Prairie Du Chein, WI a Glock 23 was priced at $659.00, S&W M&P .40c was $579.00 and a Springfield Government Model .45 was $659.00 (just the prices i can recall).

I don't know about the Smith or the Springfield but the Glock seemed a "bit" high.

Handgun prices are probably on
the rise as rifles became more scarce and higher priced.
(Remember we had a rush on evil black guns and ammo)..

It's a natural order of supply and demand here.

'Oh we don't have any ARs for under $1000.00, sorry about that.
How about a nice Glock 23 at $659.00?"

See my point?

Out in California we are seeing more ammo at Walmart so either the hoarders have begun to max out their credit cards or the supply has increased. Either way it is good for the regular shooters. Some Walmarts still limit how many boxes or rounds a customer can purchase and others have stopped holding ammo for people that call in.

Another interesting trend I'm seeing is an increase in the number of the private sales of ammunition. Some are asking premium prices but others are asking what they paid or what the ammo is selling for today. The sellers that are asking higher prices don't seem to be selling much ammo.

I can't talk too much about the availability of firearms but the supply of AR15 type stripped lower receivers has opened up and there is an abundance of them available for prices starting at $120 or lower.

Hummers were expensive for a few years. Now you can't give them away. Once everyone has bought few customers remain, prices drop. It is not like guns wear out.

Fortunately, our area is blessed with a good shop!

The gun shop I normally deal with has been selling ARs 'bout soon as he gets 'em-fortunately, he doesn't jack his prices up-apparently he deals with distributors that don't also?

Was in the other day and he just got an Armalite M-15 flatop for $895-think that's 'bout $100 less than they show on Armalite's site?

If I was in the market (bought all my ARs and ammo well before the panic), it would probably have followed me home!

The only gun prices I see coming down are the AR 15's as they are becoming more available. I'm more concerned about the ammo prices that are still skyrocketing.

The shops around here have been raising their prices because they can't supply ammo, holsters or mag pouches to the customers that buy guns.

Almost all the shops have stashed their ammo in the back so they can sell a box or two to people who buy new guns.

Doesn't really bother me too much. The wife made me sell one gun for every one I bought when she found out I had more than 100 guns...

And, I have a group of presses set up for various calibers in my workshop.

Paying ridiculous prices for primers and powder is irritating me though...

It seems demand is starting to decline, everybody and their brother now has a weapon and things can get back to normal. On line dealers are starting to show more inventory and I'm guessing the ammo shortage will lighten up when we all get our stockpiles where we feel comfortable. I guess most of us raised the quantity we want to keep and helped the frenzy.

With the shape of the economy the pawn shops should have more guns in the next few months. Right now the local shops have only shotguns.

Prices in my area of TX are still fairly inflated. Seems everything went up late last year by about 10-20% compared to a year earlier (go figure...). But then again, it's probably because we're just all buying 'em up here and selling 'em to our GOOD BUDS ACROSS THE BORDER, right?:D

saw plenty of overpriced ARs and such, but they arent going anywhere. No one is buying anymore unless its ammo. Everyone already bought their guns, now they need the ammo.

I was in Cabela's last weekend, and they had an honest-to-Stoner Bushmaster M-4 in there for 800 some odd dollars. The place was still packed, and there wasn't any of the most common ammo, but the shelves weren't empty like Sportsman's Warehouse has been. Hopefully my cases of Wolf should be there this week.

Things are still a bit high here, in my opinion.

I think the prices will remain about where they are here until after everyone who's going to spend any tax refund they may have on weapons has done so. Then, after a period of selling a lot less than they were, I think retailers will let the prices start gently slumping back to normal. Maybe a few more months along, and we'll be in good shape?

And by in "good shape", I mean I, for one, will be kicking myself in the @$$ for having bitten off on a couple of guns that I knew were a tad overpriced. At least I also did get what I thought were some decent deals in the same buying frenzy...

As a complete tangent - in the last 6 months, how many totally new gun owners do you think we picked up? Nationwide, I'll bet one million people who were previously unarmed remedied their respective situations.

Out of the 7 Firearms stores I frequent only one still gives a Military/LE discount on their guns. One guy actually told me he didn't care if I bought a gun from him because someone else will. Well that someone won't be a military person because I spread the word on that store all over the base.

The wife just bought a S&W M&P 9 from Academy for $499. It was $579 at Cabelas (now on sale as of yesterday for $549) and $569 at a local GS.

Cabela's is a RIP_OFF!!

Ammo prices are crazy here. Saw winchester .380 target ammo for $80/100rds.

I can get .40/100 rds at wally world for $35.

In the last few months I bought a remington 597 ($167), browning buckmark9$175), mossberg 500a($200), and a taurus millenium pro 9mm ($330). All for good prices I believe. The Xdm's here are $619 for base models $639 for stainless. "Assault rifles" are ridiculous!
