Greetings everyone!

I need to know what tool to purchase for assembly and dis-assembly of the castle nut on my M-4 (YES M-4 A2) Is there a difference in the tool from a civilian AR-15 to a M-4? I purchased an "armorers tool" for the AR-15 online and it is way to large around the buffer spring tube.

I am installing a magpul a.s.a.p. and I need a cost effective but quality tool to install that part. Thanks for your help!!!

You can buy a good ar15 combo tool
I believe this is the one I have. http://palmettostatearmory.com/inde...r-15-tools/aim-sports-stock-combo-wrench.html
You use the tail end like a spanner wrench in the grooves of the castle nut. Then when it is tight you stake it with a hammer and center punch by putting the tip of the center punch on the soft endplate metal right opposite of the middle of the castle nut grooves. Then you whack the punch to displace some endplate metal into the castle nut groove.

No... I know what a castle nut is, I know what an armorers tool is. I did not purchase a "M-4" the U.S. Government Issued me one.

I would like to know if anyone out there knows and can recommend a tool that is cost effective and quality as well. The one that I purchased is garbage and is too large.

The US government didn't issue you an M4A2. That creature doesn't exist. If you don't know what you're doing, stop monkeying around with your weapon before your unit armorer slaps you. If your armorer doesn't know to slap you for doing this, it's a sure sign that he doesn't know what he's doing either.

Hans, are you handling the bushmaster model M4a2, or is it the a3? It's helpful if it has clear markings, because for some odd reason, although the a3s have detachable carry handles, so do the new ones they still insist on calling a2s. The only a2s I knew of were in the hands of NATO troops in the 'ghan. I ask because it looks like all their commercial stuff says a1/ a2, no a3.

Your best bet really is to ask your unit armorer (if your armorer is colocated with you?) before making unauthorized mods to your weapon- deep deep doo doo, young son.

@tex yes its an A2 and no worries I was able to figure out the issue. The tool that I originally purchased was advertised improperly and it was in fact not designed for the AR-15/ M-4 platform.

@mr clean sorry brother but it is in fact an A2. Before you start slamming people Slap yourself, and check your sources. They do in fact exist and they are very common.
