I have been noticing here in the Kansas City area that several years ago all
the police cars said "To Protect & To Serve" on them along with the 911
numbers. All this is gone now. All they say is Police. Why is that? All of the
smaller towns around here are the same. They have the name of the town
and the word Police and that's all. How about your area? What's happening?

Sometime back in the 1980s the U.S. Supremes ruled that police have NO obligation to protect individual citizens. In other words if you call the police for help and they do not arrive in time to save you they cannot be sued for failure to protect. Believe it or not. "To protect and serve" was immediately removed from most police cruisers.

Drail has answered the question in a pretty fair manner really.

Not on topic but the question has been answered anyway.

If anyone wants to read more, search for Warren v DC.
