...and here is where having a really good relationship with your dealer/FFL comes in handy.
My local GS/FFL sold me an S&W M64 (Brinks trade-in) about a year ago. Recently, a member here on THR posted that he was looking for something similar. Since I never shoot it, I contacted him and offered to sell it to him for what I paid ($200 OTD).
He agreed. I took the handgun (five minute walk) to my LGS and told her what was going on; she asked me if I wanted to leave it with her. I did. His FFL sent info/copy/address/etc. She shipped the gun, using insured USPS (as she has done before). Cost me about $20.
The buyer had not yet sent payment. Ooops. He received the gun and emailed "you are the most trusting person I have ever met. I will send payment". I walked up to my FFL and ribbed her a little. She said, "If he doesn't send payment, I'll cover it."
Do you think she will have my business as long as I walk this planet? Hell, yes.
BTW, the buyer sent payment, everyone is happy.
I am especially happy to have an FFL like that.
If you are in the North Texas area, pm me and I will be happy to share. She also does $20 transfers (with a smile) and will order any gun for about 10% over her actual cost (well below MSRP!)
