Hello,

new to the forum and already out with a question. i was at the gun store and there happened to be a 6" anaconda for sale. it claimed to be "like new" and "unfired". it was close to closing time so i only gave it a quick overview but it did seem to be very very clean - for a used gun, no burn or carbon marks, no residue in the barrel, and dripping in oil. true all those can be accomplished by a very good owner to make it seem new. But, the gun still had very sharp corners.

The one item that did stand out to me was the muzzle. On this gun the muzzle was flush with the end of the barrel whereas every other anaconda ive seen (my uncle has one and scrolling through google images) has a crown and recessed muzzle. So, my question is, did anacondas ever come without the crown/recessed muzzle or has this barrel been tampered with???

Also, the rubber grips had gold medallions instead of nickel...

on a side note, the serial number listed on the website was MM01xxx (per their policy they dont put the entire serial online) and i did not pay close attention to the serial when i was handling it. But one can assume this was probably an earlier production piece. my uncle's is MM67xxx and was bought in the '94/95 timeframe.

Thanks for any help.

I bought one in either the 80's or early 90's, but can't remember what the barrel looked like, sorry. I'm looking for a picture of it and will post the answer to your question when I find it.

Not sure if this of assistance to you but here is a picture of the muzzle on my King Cobra, a revolver which I believe is built on the same frame as the Anaconda.

thanks but ive decided to walk from this one. seemed too odd for me regarding the crown/muzzle

The King Cobra is built on the Colt "AA" medium frame.
The Anaconda is built on Colt's "MM" large frame.

The Anaconda is a significantly larger revolver.

I've always known them as V-Frame revolvers, at least for grip fitment purposes, thanks for the fine print ;)

My Anaconda has a M58xxx serial number and the crown is recessed about .100" from the end of the barrel.
