Hey guys, I have begun my search for a good cc holster.

At present I have tried a cheepo blackhawk nylon iwb (not horrible but moves around too much). I picked up a desantis cozy partner (it was anything but) and promptly returned it.

I am looking at a crossbreed clone from a local company (Cover 6 Gear) that is pretty popular with lots of officers for off duty carry.

Cost is comparable to the crossbreed so that's a wash.
Can you adjust cant/depth on the crossbreed/king tuck?
Can you order a different kydex plate for a different gun and simply swap em out?

I can buy the base part of the holster for $60 and any pre molded kydex plate for another $25 and use this holster for all my carry guns without the need to buy a different holster...

Is the crossbreed/king tuck as versatile? I've looked at their websites but can't find anything about adjusting the cant or swapping out kydex plates for different guns. The ability to swap out the kydex and adjust to fit ME is a big selling point.

School me please!

Take a look at

They are my favorite alternative to Crossbreed, you can swap the kydex shells, they have good CS and ship a lot quicker than CB.

I just wasn't that impressed with CB, but their site does have a link to their seconds/returns which I have purchased with no regrets.

Thanks CPO15,
Pretty nice holsters, price is same as I'm looking at with the cover 6 gear, though better looking.

My brother just dropped off his king tuck for me to look at, I'm sure its a good holster but I don't like how it sits on me.

Still leaning towards the cover gear due to sheer adjustability but sheesh now whitehat is now runner up...

Regarding ther SuperTuck:
1 - yes, easily
2 - no, but that starts to seem sort of silly when the leather has taken a mold of your pistol - it isn't a feature I miss.

I sell these for $40. Cant swap shells but they are adjustable for cant and ride depth. plus they cost about half of what everyone else charges. B0AC3C43-6CE0-4B06-8666-7D06A1032209_zpshbmiakqx.jpg

Thanks for all the info guys!
I have a few weeks to sort this out while I wait on the processing of my paperwork.

bigfatdave,
I didn't even think about the leather molding to the gun, thank you for pointing that out!

TAKtical,
What is the backing on the holster in the picture?
Can you make something for the Sig P-938?
Do you do custom work? I suffer a few infirmities from a couple accidents and find most "one size fits all" to never fit me worth beans.
It looks like you might steal my business from the other guys.

Check out Theis Holsters. I have one for my 3913 and I love it. Get the Kydex loops. They are strong and a lot easier on your car seats.

the backing is leather. my holsters are all custom made per order. shoot me a pm if you are interested. i have a like to my for sale thread in my signature. there are pics and reviews you can check out there.

1TG - TAKtical made me a holster based on a vague description of what I wanted and a photograph of another holster that I marked up. (modified from one of his stock designs)

It came out pretty good, and he uses good materials as well as good workmanship.

And his prices are very reasonable.

TAKtical - that holster you made me set up for loops worked very well, are you offering a belt loop version yet?

+1 for WhiteHat. I have one of their horesehide backings and keep buying their kydex sheaths when I get something new to carry. The holster is adjustable for ride and cant. I spent the $20 here and $30 there for cheap nylon holsters so I was hesitant to invest in a "real" holster. But I am glad I did. They have amazing customer service. Everytime I emailed their support address with a question leading up to purchase (and their were lots of them, I am sure they got tired of seeing my email) I almost always got a response from the owner with the longest response time was about 7 hours. But then again I did email them at 1AM or something.

Thanks guys!

TAKtical,
Showed the wife the pics you posted, she is interested as well!
Neither of us are interested in having a box o holsters and have been trying to settle on at least one type of carry while we wait for our CCH applications to be processed.
For that price it'd be hard to go wrong!

As soon as I get her to pick how she wants to carry I'll be in touch.

BFD, what do you mean by belt loops specifically? And which holster are you talking about?

??

On further thought, I'll stop derailing this thread and PM you on the subject.

BTW, Whatever brand of hybrid holster you choose isn't the biggest factor. They are actually pretty similar. But I would avoid the ones that use multiple layers of leather, for instance the CompTac hybrids, they are unnecessarily thick and bulky. One layer is all that you need. I've had Crossbreeds and my current carry holster for my 3913 is from Theis. The only real difference is the kydex loops on my Theis which I solidly prefer over metal. Most metal clips have a lip that sticks out to make them easier to put on. My daughter would bang her head, knuckles, and everything else on those little protrusions when I wore it, it was also a little too sharp for me to trust no to tear up my car seats. I avoid that type of belt clip.

I have been using a CompTac MTAC Minotaur for about two years now. Another member mentioned the double thickness leather, but I will add that the double thickness keeps the fastener heads from touching your skin/rusting/scraping if they become loose. I really do like the CompTac Minotaur. Just my 2 cents.

have you looked at old faithfull holsters a cheap version of the crossbreed can be had for 30 if you put it together yourself (supereasy)

I am a King Tuck owner and yes you can adjust depth. The real beauty of the Crossbreed is COMFORT. I can where it all day and literally forget I'm carrying.

Why buy a clone when you can have the real thing? I'll use the Porche line "There is no substitute" just saying

Crossbreed

I believe I am the owner of the first Supertuck made for a Keltec P-11. I mentioned wanting one on THR but not seeing it on CB's website. The owners of CB contacted me on THR and made one. I have been carrying it for so many years I cannot even remember when I got it. The holster shows only normal signs of wear. No cracks, rips or anything. I sent it back for a combat cut and got it back in a few days.

I have a King Tuk for my G17, 26. yes you can adjust the cant. I really like this rig for the 4-5 o'clock IWB wearing.

Coming from a guy who owns a King Tuck? That seems a bit hypocritical to make that statement.

one thing I don't like about some of these new hybrid IWB rigs is they are made as a one size fits most. meaning it fits the officer's 1911 and the full size G.I. or the Glock 26 and the Glock 17. the problem I have is that some holsters do not fully protect the wearer from the barrel/slide of the full sized guns; leaving the full sized guns hanging out of the bottom...

It is the same reason why there are all leather holsters that have open bottoms, to help prevent debris build up in the bottom of the holster. Slide length doesn't bear as much for comfort on a carry weapon as width and weight do, which I consider a good thing. It allows you to carry a 5" 1911 without chafing a hole into your leg.

Agreed.
All I have to do to clean out my CBST is blow some air through or wipe out with a barely moist rag.
And while the 6" match gun hangs past the leather, a 5" doesn't. The 3.5" and 4" guns I routinely carry don't go to the end of the leather, obviously.
