Here is how to decode Savage MkII models. If the first letter is G- solid wood stock, F - synthetic stock, B - Boyd's laminate stock. Second letter: Y - youth, V - varmint barrel (heavy barrel), T - thumbhole stock, S or SS - stainless steal . A T at the end - target peep sights. The -SR means suppressor ready (threaded barrel), XP - scope package. Boyd's makes all of the OEM laminate stocks for Savage.
G = wood stock and shorter (skinny) barrel
GY = wood stock youth model
GL = wood stock, left hand
BV = Boyds stock, varmint barrel
BTV = Boyds thumbhole stock, varmint barrel
BTVLSS = Boyds thumbhole, varmint barrel, left hand, stainless steal
F = synthetic stock
FV = synthetic stock, varmint barrel
FV-SR = synthetic stock, varmint barrel, suppressor ready
I'm sure there are some that I missed. You get the basic idea how to decode the different models of the MkII.
The synthetic stocks aren't bad as long as the barrels are free floated properly. I have a GLV in 17m2 and a BTVLSS in 22 lr that shoot great.
