Good evening all, wanted to share some good results from the range. I'll start off with my old friend, my 94 win in 30/30. A few years back I settled in on a load it shot well. It's a favorite, goes to the range with me every time, but never sees a lot of rounds through it since it heats up so fast and stays hot. Beings that was working on a load for the other rifle i inadvertently got to spend some some quality time with the 94 win. It worked out like this.
1961 model winchester Williams fp rear sight, bead front. Which I have a heck of a time seeing.
I shot 5 groups all at 100 yds. I'd worked out a load for it that I always thought was good but never really drilled down on. 33 gr of norma 201 under 150 gr sierra fn. I've chrono'd it a bunch of times at 2260 fps. Consistent. But I have a heck of a time seeing the front sight, and am going to change it out for a fiber optic.... And feel justified.
The first group I shot was trying to see the front sight, a 4 inch vertical group 1/4" wide. The rest measured inside 2" with the best, 1 3/8". Best group I've shot on iron sights in 15 years.
Have to say, impressed myself. At 100 yrs I can't see the orange dot but hold 6 o'clock at the big black bull.
The other rifle with me is my 308 Spanish Mauser, I had worked up some mild 168gr amax/imr4064 loads for it. The mildest shot for ****, once I got over 41.5gr it tightened up respectably. The loads that landed under 1.5 inches i'll explore, best was 1 1/8". She has a fixed 4x scope forward mounted on it.
I have a lot of ground to cover, I have 150 gr fb and by to test as well as 165gr FB. But Heck. Cant help revisit a bit one way or the other at 1 1/8".
