Recoil Spring for ORIGINAL Browning Challenger

I have three 1960's vintage Browning Challengers and a Medalist. The other day I was teaching a young lady the finer points of shooting (NRA Class) and the recoil spring got stuck in the slide and I had to pull the guide out of the slide to get the spring out. I suspect that after 50 years I need a new recoil spring. Anyone have the specs for that spring so I can cut down a buckmark spring to work or should I go with trial and trial.?
