I stood in my local gunstore in September and October of 2000 to get new voters registered and to recruit new NRA members. I wanted to share my ideas with others to try to increase gunowner voter turnout in this upcoming election. Even if you can' t take the time to register new voters in person you can leave behind the flyers as noted below. Please note this is my first post so let me know if I've done something wrong and I'll correct it in the future. Good luck all around.
Register New Voters & Spread the Word:
1. Get your state’s voter registration info and dates (this info for all states can be found at www.nra-ila.org). Printout copies of register to vote applications.
Contact your local NRA Election Volunteer Coordinator (EVC via NRA-ILA.org website), see what help he needs and get a package of NRA Membership Applications.
2 Customize the flyer below for your state. It looks better if you BOLD all the text (I have left it regular font for ease of posting).
3. Go to your local gun stores and ranges/clubs on, especially weekends. Register new voters, remind people of absentee ballots and early voting dates, have them join the NRA . Give everybody a flyer and ask them to spread the word. Leave piles of the flyers and registration materials behind with signs pointing them out.
4. Work out a coverage schedules with your buddies if you have several ranges and stores in your area so there is one person at each store and each range every weekend until voter registration deadline is reached.
5. “Work†the lines of people waiting to get into gun shows to register to vote or join and pass out flyers. Ask the show promoters if you can leave these materials on the show handout table. It would be great if you could get a table and register people to vote at a show as well as passing out flyers.
N.B. Check with the NRA before you try to register new members at a show, as there often will be an official NRA table and you don’t want to cause difficulty.
6. Take out an ad in your local Friends of the NRA, Ducks Unlimited, Hunting Club etc. dinner, with one page the state application and another page the Gun Web Sites flyer. Leave copies of the voter registration information and flyers at the entrance table to the affair.
