I have a 11-48 that my dad received when he was young. He tells me that he has had it since the late 50s or early 60s. I know that the gun was made from 1949 to 1968 and that in 20 Gauge the serial numbers are from 5,800,000 – 5,848,000. If the serial number on mine is 5812XXX, can anyone tell me what the exact year is. I love this gun and have shot it for years. I would love to find more especially one in 16GA, my favorite gauge. Thanks for your input.

There is a letter code on the barrel. I've always been able to google it up.

I suspect that if you update with the three letters found on the left rear of the barrel, someone soul will rescue you (should you not elect to search it).

11-48's aren't that uncommon and not expensive.

I have a whole set 410,28,20,16, and 12 they're great guns.

I know an older fellow (near 80) who is wanting to sell his 1148 20 gauge to me. But his asking price of $300 seems a bit steep. It's in good shape but not pristine. what's a 20 ga worth? I should add it's a 28 " fixed mod barrel with a vent rib.
