So, it's both? A magazine/clip; clip/magazine? Is one different from the other or are they the same? Is it a "detachable box magazine" or a "clip"? Both?

I have seen this debated for eons on various firearms forums over the years. I agree with d2wing's assessment. Any detachable box magazine "clips" into the weapon. Therefore the term "clip" has been used successfully for ages. For some reason criticizing this recently got legs on the Internet, as everyone and their brother started in by complaining about it. Mostly because some people like being, "grammar police". It's petty, but it's true. We've all seen it.

Remington calls it a, "Clip", and / or a, "Magazine Clip". And they have been in the firearms manufacturing business for the last 203 years. Both correctly describe the part in question. It's just one of those things that people like to jump on for no reason. As d2wing said, a Magazine can rightfully refer to a reinforced building where powder and ammunition is stored. Hence the correct term, "Powder Magazine". It is also a reinforced room on a ship where explosive shells and powder is stored for it's large bore cannons.

As far as I'm concerned this is all a lot to do about nothing. If someone uses either term, anyone who knows anything about guns will understand what they are talking about. That's all that matters. Everything else is simply useless, holier than thou criticism.

I still hold that a clip holds ammunition at the ready for loading a magazine - I don't care what some marketing department says.
If I ask my shooting partner for a loaded clip for my SMLE I hope that she doesn't go searching around for a magazine!
Definitions matter or communications suffer.
