I bought this remington 7400 in 30-06 from Wal-Mart about a year ago and now want to put a synthetic stock on it. I bought this el-cheapo Ramline stock from Cabela's (I wanted a Bell and Carlson but they're a bit pricey) and I'm having trouble getting the factory wood stock off.
The forearm is easily removable, but the buttstock seems to be held in place by some supernatural force.
Here's what's happening: After removing the buttplate and spacer I notice a cylindrical channel about 4" deep at the end of which there is a screw head and a washer, Ramline's instructions say to use a large flat head screwdriver to remove the stock screw so naturally that's what I did, but that got me nothing but calluses and a scratched up screw head , now here I am getting kind of annoyed thinking there must be some logical explanation as to why this stock screw isn't coming out. (I can't imagine why, but maybe somebody put loctite on the damn thing) Can anyone tell me what's going on? It infuriates me that remington doesn't give you instructions for disassembly of the rifle.
