The latest "American Rifleman" mag mentions Remington's new reduced recoil ammo in 270, 7mm Mag, and 30-06. Claims 1100 ft. lbs of energy remaining at 200 yds. Half the normal recoil is listed as the "why". I've been to Remington's website already. Does anyone have more information? Thanks.
 
Given that very few shots on game are actually taken at beyond 150 yards, that's a going option, isn't it? Many hold the 1000 ft-lb mark as the necessary requirement for a reliable killer of deer. Many elk guides would rather have a client armed with a .270 that he practices with, than a client totin' a .338 Win Mag that he's afraid of the recoil on.

A friend of mine loaded up about 100 rds .257 Rbts reduced-recoil loads with 100 gr. Nosler Ballistic Tips at about 2650. He was taking his 14 year old daughter out to hunt with a lightweight sporter. Well, after he sold that rifle, he gave about 50 or so of these "poofter loads" to my Dad and me to shoot. Out of Dad's semi-varminter .257, recoil was negligible. My wife, a sturdy woman, fired it and loved it. It was with some minor trepidation that I took her out deer hunting with them. Results: 1st deer: 95 yards: dropped in its tracks. 2nd deer: 140 yards: ran 35 yards.

At 100 yards, this load had just over 1000 ft. lbs of energy. I'd recommend it to anyone.

But who's feeling too much recoil from the .270 with 130 gr. loads?!?
 
I like the idea. It gives beginning shooters a way to learn riflecraft w/o having to deal w/ excessive recoil off the bat.

I've been thinking of making some "low-power" loads for my SMLE by using 7.62x39 bullets (.311 diameter) and loading data (w/ plenty of filler). Don't see why it wouldn't work for 7.62x54R, either. :cool:

Why should fun at the range mean coming home w/ a sore shoulder? :scrutiny:
 
Gold Mine

If Remington does a half decent job of marketing these rounds they will be a gold mine for the company. I have a couple of Model 700's with more than 10,000 rounds through them because of reduced reloads. Even as much as I love to shoot 10,000 rounds of full power 30-06 would have worn me and the rifle out by now. I can buy a 1,000 rounds of surplus .308 FMJ's and a couple lbs. of red dot or 2400 and play for months.
 
They have reduced recoil slugs too, and they definately kick less than even normal 2 3/4" slugs. The 12 guage is almost comfortable to shoot.
