I was thinking about it today as I saw the side of Hwy 350 being littered with four wheel drives as hunters venture out into the cold to bag a deer. I am a cop with about 6 and a half years experience and every time I stop a car, I cannot be sure if there is a gun in the vehicle however if I were an officer with Wildlife, Game, and Fish; I would be positive that every car or truck I dealt with would have a firearm in it. I thought to myself that every hunter I saw would have a firearm with him but I felt that they would be legal to the letter. My question is: If hunters are guaranteed to have a firearm upon their person (I am speaking of gun season only), and the average every day patrollmans traffic stop vehicle is not guaranteed to be armed, what are the statistics in reference to Game Wardens being shot and killed in the line of duty when every vehicle stop they make is with someone who is armed vs police patrollmen who are shot and killed in the line of duty when only a minute percentage of vehicles they stop are armed. I havent heard of any wildlife officers being killed but I have heard of countless uniformed beat cops meeting their maker. I think the stats in question here would be more ammunition for the 2nd amendment advocates showing that legal firearms possessed by responsible working adults in the activity of hunting produce much fewer deaths of our law enforcement personnel than the crackheads and crooks who arent able to get guns, but are allowed to in order to allow legislators to abstain from being labled as politically incorrect. I appreciate your ideas, opinions, and stats.
