[Intense ANNOUNCER VOICE]: Last week, on Return of the Son of Mossberg Factory GR Sights Part 6 7/8...

Average Guy had just picked up his Mossberg 500 with newly installed factory ghost ring sight kit from the gunsmith. After the infamous "cheek weld incident," he was anxious to try it out. Following the combat chess outing, he put about 35 rounds or so through it, including a couple of slugs and perhaps 10 rounds of double-aught.

He had just swapped for his friend Tim's 870 Wingmaster when Tim suddenly asked, "Hey, what happened to your front sight?"

[Cue dramatic music]

The black and fluorescent orange front sight blade had slipped free from its dovetail and was nowhere to be found. It didn't help that the ground was littered with black and fluorescent orange shards of clay targets. The poor front sight blade was lost. Forever.

[Cue more dramatic music]

Join us next week when we hear Average Guy say, "Hi, I'd like to order a front sight blade for a factory ghost ring sight kit..."

Epilogue: $8 for part, $5.50 for shipping. The silver-soldered post was fine; guess I'll need to JB Weld the blade in, eh?

Things happen. One of the reasons some of us advocate a minimum of 200 rounds shot glitchless before posting a weapon is so things that might break or come loose do so.

Your lesson was cheap at the price....

THE FINAL CHAPTER

Rec'd the front sight blade from Mossberg today--about 10 minutes after USPS dropped off an envelope from a THR member containing TWO front sight blades, gratis. (THR people are GOOD people!) Took some time and effort to get it to fit correctly, but with advice from said THR member, I got it. Hit it with a light coat of matte spray paint and it's a thing of beauty.

Breathtaking, isn't it?

Hmm. I wonder if I could BBQ black the whole barrel...?

I haven't had the blade fall out.... I think i peened the bottom of the dovetail before putting it in, but i don't remember.

I'm seriously considering removing the orange part of my front sight, since it causes contrast problems.
