So I am looking to spend some money on a quality scope.

The rifle is a Weatherby Vanguard in .30-06, which currently has a Mueller Optics 2-7x32 on it. I haven't even sighted it in yet with it, but I know already that I want something higher quality. I will keep the Mueller as a backup, but I figure I should get a quality scope.

So, what I am looking at right now is about a $500-$600 price range.

The three choices right now are:

- Zeiss 3-9x40 Conquest

- Leupold 2.5-8x36 VXIII

- Kahles 2-7x36 American

Those are the options.

What do you think?

I just got a Zeiss Conquest scope but I haven't used it at the range yet so I can't really say how good it is. From just looking through it around the house it appears very bright. I don't have any experience with the other scopes though.

If you do decide on the Conquest take a look at http://www.opticsspot.com/ they have really good prices right now (a special), free shipping, and they include a free optics cleaning kit. I got mine in 3 days.

I have two of the Zeiss Conquest scopes and really like them... I dont really think you can go wrong with any Zeiss optics.

IGB,

Good luck with your choice.
Great choices you got going on.

If I was in that league for scopes,
my choice would be somewhere around Leupold & Zeiss,
given that I've had experience with those two
(but not your third option...yet),
even if for different reasons.

(Zeiss for lab microscope use,
Leupold for rifle
{my choice for scoping an upcoming 7mm08}).

My current scope choice for my planned deer rifle:
Leupold VX-II in 3X-9X 40mm.

More coatings than VX-I, built more stoutly for centerfire.

I can imagine the VX-III is even more so.

Please keep us posted re your decision.

Regards,

Nem

Thanks everyone!

I am starting to lean towards the Leupold, mainly because of their warranty ("Even if you drop it and break it, we will fix it"), and because they are a local company here in Oregon. Should be easy to get service here.

Not sure if I should go with the Boone and Crocket reticule, duplex or the range estimating duplex. I am thinking of either the B&C or the ranging duplex, since I won't be able to afford a rangefinder.

I second the IOR quality. It is on par. Thing is, they really aren't that much of a savings. If you want a military style scope, I'd go with them definately. For what this fellow wants/needs...a Leupold/Burris/Nikon/Bushnell would do the trick.

IOR is built like a tank, and has very nice clicks as well as military style reticles. A sporting/semi-tactical type scope would be better, rather than a full-blown military type optic I think.
