I have a Rossi 92 357 rifle that the bolt is either worn or someone decided to slick it up by filing the bolt slots. Whatever the cause the result is that even with new locking bolts the bolt does not close enough to reliably fire. I was thinking of tigging up the front face of the slot to restore the bolt lockup. Can anyone recommend a good weld rod alloy to use that will hopefully wear better that the bolt material? I was thinking that it just might be a case harden and it has gotten into the softer material.

Make sure the lever is not bent. As to not allow the bolt to move forward its final travel and lock up. The lever hits the lower tang too early.

The original large loop was bent a bit and did not allow full lockup. It would try to snap open when fired. I replaced it with a small loop (more to my personal taste) and the bolt locks now have full travel. I have to strip the bolt to accurately measure but I thick there is a least .015 inch lost in bolt wear.
