Anyone there use rubber bullets. I figured id add them onto my order from Midway and use them for a really cheap close range plinker (just use a trap). Anyone out there use them? Any trouble getting them into the case or does the standard 38 die set work? Ill modify a few 38 cases by enlarging the flash hole but I cant wait to try them out.

I assume you might be talking about Speer plastic bullets maybe? They have to be used in the matching Speer plastic cases.

Or the X-Ring Rubber Bullets?

If so:
Enlarge the flash holes to 1/8".
Prime the cases.
Press the X-Ring Rubber Bullets into the cases with your thumb and gofer it!

Other then sizing the fired cases the first time, and priming, no reloading equipment is necessary.

Ya the X-ring

That was easy.
I figured more than that would be needed, thanks RC your help is appreciated. If they work good ill be setting up a indoor range in the garage (I can open the door for ventilation). Thanks again.

Old strips of carpet hung in a box work good for a back-stop.

They tend to bounce around off a hard trap.

I've used the X-Ring bullets in both .357 and .44. rcmodel's instructions are spot on.

A few precautions are in order - be sure to have a good backstop. They are faster than you might expect. I use a square of carpet hanging in a cardboard box.

Be sure to have good ventilation if you plan to fire a lot of them (more than just an open door). Unless your primers are clearly marked non-lead, always assume they will spread atomic lead around when fired. Breathing it isn't on the suggested list of things to do.

Use eye and ear protection - primers are not quiet little things.

[Edit]
:D rcmodel and I were simulposting!

Ok, I have a lot of old carpet so that will work great. How many reuses do you get? I'm assuming at least quite a few since they are advertised as reusable, would 20-30 or even 50-60 uses be the norm?

"How many reuses do you get?"

I don't know, but it will be a lot. I haven't seen any degradation at all of the ones I used maybe 15 to 20 times each. I'm sure they will go many times that amount.

Thanks, if they work well enough ill be loading quite a few. Many thanks.

How about wax bullets?

Another option is to make your own wax bullets. Just press the case mouth into a block of softened paraffin wax before priming. You can use a piece of plywood for a backstop. No worry about ricochets or bounces. The bullets stick to the plywood, just scrape off, melt and reuse. If you get any waxing:D of the barrel, just warm it and it should be very easy to clean.

i have shot a fer of the rubber bullets through my 45. i did not drill the primer pocket out. they seem to work ok, but they set off the fire alarms in my house, so i quit doing that. i really cant shoot outside, as my neighbor goes kookoo when i tried shooting the bb gun (kid training) this past summer. i have gotten away with shooting several squirrels this winter though. must be that she cant hear the pelet gun from her living room during the winter.

Nice one. Fortunately my neighbors don't seem to mind me going to a lot of ammo but its more of a cost thing for me. I have thought of wax but Im going to try the rubber ones for a while first before I buy my own casting stuff.

It's not necessaary to drill the primer holes for an auto pistol.

It is very necessary for a revovler, or the primers will back out and the cylinder won't turn.

Ahh, thanks RC, I didn't think of that ill make sure that I drill em all to 1/8th and just mark them for dedicated rubber bullet usage.
