Rudy Giuliani asking for NRA support: I don't think so

Recently after reading that Rudy Guiliana was courting the NRA for their (our) support I got upset. I informed the NRA-ILA via email that if the NRA gave Guiliana support for his campaign that I would cancel my life subscription to the organization. This is the response I got back. Each and every NRA member needs to contact the NRA-ILA and voice their concerns. Rudy Guiliana isn't a friend of the gunowner as demonstrated by his past support of anti gun legislation, gun manufactor law suits.

Thank you for your email regarding former mayor Rudy Giuliani. We are always interested in hearing what our members have to say and we appreciate you taking the time to contact our office. The NRA’s candidate endorsement process is a complex one, and the Political Victory Fund takes great care to examine many factors when endorsing a candidate.

First and foremost is a candidate’s demonstrated record on firearms, hunting and civil liberties issues relative to firearms and hunting. We support incumbent officeholders who have a record of supporting Second Amendment rights, building a relationship of mutual trust with them. Our grades and endorsements are then reported to NRA members via our Political Preference Charts (PPC), which are available on the NRA-PVF website (www.NRAPVF.org), and either included in NRA’s magazines, or mailed directly to members prior to Election Day.

When deciding where to apply our efforts between a number of races, we consider whether the candidate has a reasonable chance of winning. Some pro-Second Amendment candidates, unfortunately, are so handicapped by local political conditions, lack of funds, lack of staff or volunteer support, and other difficulties that even a massive NRA effort could not put them over the top and would simple be a waste of NRA members’ time and money. On the other hand, some pro-Second Amendment candidates may be in such a strong position politically that little or no expenditure of resources is necessary to ensure their reelection, and our efforts can go to a more critical race elsewhere.

Your concern regarding our endorsement of Rudy Giuliani is a valid one, and I can assure you, our greatest efforts will be applied to candidate grades and endorsements for the presidential race, especially in such a critical year. Giuliani, along with all the other candidates, will go through the same rigorous grading process and we will absolutely endorse the candidate who will preserve and protect the Second Amendment.

guys, wake up. i don't think rudy has a snowball's chance in hell of getting an NRA endorsement, regardless of how many letters we might send to the NRA.

Keep slamming the NRA on every possible occasion if it makes you feel smart. But remember that every time you do it you weaken the only gun owners organization that can protect your rights.

Common sense should suggest that there's something wrong with gun owners who behave the same way as anti gun people towards the NRA.

It's good to win. Unhappy people can eventually get to feel good about winning if they try hard enough.

+1 It will be hold my nose and vote for the lesser of two evils time. The last time I voted FOR a candidiate rather that against another was for Reagan.
